drewe2000: "they don't have much reason to do so." --> erm... yes.. despite the fact that they better want to support some dozen million iPhone devices... I think "Made for Apple" is a big selling proposition and they can't allow that their devices are "No longer made for Apple".

@drewe2000: I don't think so. I'm sure that in order for a product to have the official "Made for iPod/iPhone/iPad" seal it needs to meet Apple's standards instead of doing a half-assed job.

I'm struggling with it too, trying to determine what equipment I can install in my car.

I'd like to think it's just a bug from Apple in iOS 6 which they will fix - that would be the best outcome.

The other possibility, that it's the stereos themselves, is more bothersome. Yes, they have incentive to upgrade them, but those devices are already sold - newer ones, they can now sell everyone, are easier (and there's more incentive) to fix. I'm being cynical, yes, but we've certainly seen things like it happen before.

Either way, the stereo manufacturers (and cars) and Apple need to fix it ASAP. I'm just saying it may not be entirely Apple's doing, which complicates it.

    Drew,

I would forever be skeptical about upgrading my IPhone because they didn't initial warn us that upgrading may cause older ( mid you mine is now 3weeks old and the most recent edition of Alpine) Bluetooth devices to stop fully functioning?  This sounds like a vicious cycle that could occur moving forward with Apple upgrading their products and causing much frustration when not allowing its users to rollback to a previously software.

    Ugh :/

Hmmm Let's see if I have this right with some reference (read - "confusing") material... Wiki says -

    "Mac OS X

Since version 10.2, Apple Inc.'s Mac OS X has contained an integrated Bluetooth stack.[10] Included profiles are DUN,SPP,FAX,HID,HSP,SYNC,PAN,BPP and OBEX. Version 10.5 adds support for A2DP and AVRCP.

BlueMagic 3.0 is Open Interface's (now Qualcomm) highly portable embedded Bluetooth protocol stack which powers Apple's iPhone and Qualcomm-powered devices such as the Motorola RAZR. BlueMagic also ships in products by Logitech, Samsung, LG, Sharp, Sagem, and more. BlueMagic 3.0 was the first fully certified (all protocols and profiles) Bluetooth protocol stack at the 1.1 level."

Now that this has totally confused the pooch, it's time for the screwdriver. As it was explained earier, iOS 5 used Bluetooth protocol 10.3. 10.3 played with his Bluetooth radio pals with no problems. But along comes iOS 6. He's the new kid on the block and has a mean two day stubble. He's got BT protocol 10.4 and he has nary a care for the 10.3 playground gang. So they take their stuff and go home. They DO leave the line open for bare music streaming and phone call quality that are just on this side of dump. New kid 10-4 swaggers around with iPhone 5 and is the new BPOC (Big Protocol Of Cars). He works with vehicles like Manny, Moe & Jack. Since iPhone 5 is in the spotlight, iPhone 4 and BT 10.3 stand at the bus stop in the rain.

PLUS, in the meantime, we of the 10.3 protocol sit and wait while the Apple CEO apologizes for "Maps". Give me a doggone break! He actually tells users to run other map apps until they fix the Apple app! Give us a break!

We deserve better treatment and a fix for this glitch. At least an acknowledgement of the problem and that they're doing something about it. C'mon Apple!

There are more Android and other bluettoth devices out there than iPhones, and as such the company really may not care.

After all continuing engineering costs money…

Apple's not going to "warn you" that some third party product might not properly implement an industry standard protocol, if that's the root cause of the issue.

    Once again:

If it's Apple's fault, Apple will eventually fix it.

If it's a third party vendor's fault, they will have to fix it.

And the people who (can) spent more money on electronical devices and gadgets.. Are those with the Apple things or those with the you-name-it-none-premium-price-phones?

Eventually...  This is where I have the problem as well as many others.  They should at least provide a work around until that point.  My stereo is 3 weeks old, which I bought because it supported this function.

It is beginning to look like we are supporting half finished products now, we want it right now, we don't care if it has been fully tested.  I think this is getting worse with most companies, next think we know we will be buying a tv that currently can't play any sound, we will just have to wait for them to workout the bugs.

More than one vendor's HDTV has shipped with bugs like that, unfortunately.

Whenever standards are involved, both "sides" program to them but, unfortunately, if one party gets it wrong the two won't interoperate.

I have gone back to using a USB cable... and now I have control over music playback from the car controls... its not elegant, we know wires are bad, but it's much safer than fooling with the phone while driving.  If you ahve that option you should do it. Someday the powers that be will fix this either on the host or client side of the BT relationship. In the mean time we've all learned a lesson or two.

Also, I've been suitably chastized for mentioning the words which Apple found offensive.  The previous post had not techincal content so they removed it. I can see that.  Sorry Apple. I didn't mean to offend you.  I was just surprised I hadn't heard anyone go there.

Same problem on 2011 BMW with latest software update. No artist or album info, doesn't resume play and controls do not work. BMW office also doesn't really work despite iOS 6 now supporting bluetooth MAP profile. Please fix ASAP

I am having the same issues with iPhone4, iPad2, and Beats Wireless.  This is a big issue for me, as I listen to music many hours out of any day.  I contacted Beats by Dre. and asked about the issue, and asked if they were working on it.  I am waiting on an answer.  I really hope apple can fix this quickly and without making me by new headphones!
