This *****!!! Both iPhone 5 we bought have the issue that it doesn't work well on wifi with WPA2 encryption. I'm VERY VERY VERY disappointed. I have about 10 Apple products here such as ipods, imacs, appletvs and NONE of them have issue. I'm so disappointed I'm really thinking about getting an Android phone. Worse is that I don't have an Apple store close to me!!!
Then call AppleCare.
If you could get the product shipped to you, they can provide service the same way.

I really think you are right.
I just returned my iPhone 5 because of slow and choppy wifi connentions, I tryed it on 3 different networks. my 4s(iOS 6) was faster on every network.
I returned my iPhone 5 but I wish I checked the chip before. I have the serial number and part number from the receipt but couldn't find any information using them.
Has there been anyone with wifi issues that is using the intel chip?

I don't think we have seen any confirmed case of AES bug on Intel, and we have a few reports of Intel replacements being fine. In the PC World, Intel Wifi cards are considered the best for laptops as opposed to Broadcom, etc. so it wouldn't surprise me if they are more stable.
That said, a lot of people have Apple chip machines working fine too. I would be surprised if the Apple Store would let you select a phone on this basis. It's not on the outside of the box. They'd have to fire up each one of the (limited number) they have in stock I would think.
At Stonestown, we've established they have an encrypted breakroom network. I'm going to ask them to connect it to that and sit there until I'm satisfied it doesn't have the same issue.

Ok. I called Applecare and spoke to a senior person there because whoever answers the phone does not have a clue about the problem. The person I spoke told me Apple has identified the issue and is officially admiting there is a problem with some of the devices. The instructions are to "recall" all the devices known to have the issue and have others sent. They are overnighting 2 iPhone 5 for me since we have with the same issue here. She assure me that the devices they are sending are new and have had the problem fixed already. But in any case, I'll test.

yes. This is what I was told. She was going to troubleshoot but looked at their internal documents and found something dates from today (this afternoon). Then no questions asked. Just asked for my address and told me they were shipping new units tomorrow morning (overnight).

LOL my afternoon could have gone SO much better if I'd made my appointment for the evening. I really liked my Apple Tech, it's a shame we had to have such a confrontational experience.
I sure hope this is right, and comes to the attention of all the employees ASAP.

I shared my temporary solution, while apple comes up with permanent fix...
I have a 4S and an IPad. After updating to IOS 6 neither would connect to my home Wifi, or they would with a lot intermittence. I tried pretty much everything I found in all the forums I came across (reset settings, clear cache, you name it) until this afternoon, when I noticed that in my office my iPhone connected with no issues.
I checked the security settings in my office's network and realized that it was set to WPA-PSK, whereas in my home network I had WPA2-PSK. I got home, changed the security setting on my router and so far it's been connected like if nothing had happened, to the point that I have updated the 28 apps that had pending upgrades.
The curious thing is that before the IOS update, both devices were working fine.
If you have the opportunity to change your network settings, it's worth the try.

Yes, changing the network encryption works.
I changed from WPA2- AES to WPA2- TKIP, and my iPhone 5 connects perfectly.
However i can't downgrade the office encryption and hence i cannot connect at work.
This is extremely extremely frustrating.

At least Apple has now apparently recognized it officially as a defect. Downgrading security is a dangerous workaround, not a solution. Being an early adopter is often painful. Good luck and hope you have a smooth time getting a replacement.
