having the same problem on my iPhone 5 straight out of the box. It seems to reboot whenever it requires anything but minimal memory (including syncing or loading a backup, scrolling through photos, sending MMSs, etc.) and generally lags and fails to register gestures properly. every reboot comes with a panic.plist error. I assume this is clearly a hardware issue. I have done a complete restore and a few restores from backup and tried every other quick fix I could think of (removing sim, turning the phone off, disconnecting cellular data, etc.).

Its defintely an hardware issue, panic.plist's are a fault on the logic board if I'm not mistaken and can only be fixed by getting your iPhone replaced.

If you live near an Apple retail store, book a Genius Bar appointment and tell them about your panic.plist's happening with every reboot, the Genius Bar person will be able to try and see this for themselves by checking the Diagnostic Log in the relevent section in the iPhone's settings. They will do some quick tests, then they'll give you a new iPhone.

Post back with how you get on.

I was having the same issue - several shutdowns and getting panic.plist in my diagnostics. Took it to the Genius Bar and told them what I had read about the panic.plist being a hardware issue. They ran their own tests and told me it was a software or firmware issue. They reset it to factory and told me not to restore from backup - I had to sync and reload everything - it probably took me three hours to do that and to re-enter all passwords for different accounts and to get my phone back to "normal." Two days later it crashed twice and then once this past Monday and twice again yesterday so I have another appointment this afternoon. Am afraid they'll just do the same thing - while I don't really want my five-month old brand-new phone being replaced by a refurbished one, I also don't want a phone that's becoming unreliable after only five months.

I think you got a bad Genius too be honest, panic.plist are defintely a hardware issue. Just explain what action was taken last time and that its no better, and in light of this I want the iPhone replaced, I think they will replace it this time though, after the last course of action did not work.

Re: "I don't really want my five-month old brand-new phone being replaced by a refurbished one"

I've read on here that Apple refurbs go through more tests than the brand new item. I'm sure the items are returned to China, stripped down completely and new parts installed, then sent back has refurbed items. Perhaps someone else can confirm this but I'm almost certain I read that on here.

Thanks! I just got back from the Apple store where they replaced the phone. As soon as I told the Genius my issues, he replaced it. Thanks for telling me what the refurbished ones go through - that makes me feel a lot better!

    How old is your iPhone?

If its less that 12 months old I would either make an appointment at the Genius Bar at your nearest Apple retail with a view to getting the issue fixed/repaired or failing that getting the iPhone replaced. Or if there is no Apple Store nearby, contact Apple Care.

Here is a link to the Apple Care numbers for the various countries.

Not even a year later of owning my 4s, it recently started doing random reboots. Same issue as the above panic.list . :/

If you are getting panic.plists, then its a hardware issue and can only be fixed by getting the iPhone replaced.

Make sure you have backed your iPhone up and then make a Genius Bar appointment at your nearest Apple Store.

When you get to the Apple Store. Explain to the Genius that you have tried restoring as a new phone and then putting your content back onto it, but the problem still remains. This might save you needing to go back to the Apple Store again as some Genius's tell you to try this as a fix for the problem , which really it shouldn be suggested as panic.plist's are a hardware fault. I can imagine that you would get your iPhone replaced on the spot.

Post back with what the outcome is.

Since getting my iPhone 4S, I have been having odd panic.list, normally rebooting 4 - 5 times in a row.  Recently I tried fault finding myself and the first issue was Siri.  Once I disabled Siri, the reboots have been less frequent.  it occurred again this morning and the Reset Counter was present at the same time as the panic.list.  Any idea's?  I have contacted Apple (or iStore) in South Africa and their recommendation was exactly as tal1971 stated it would be, re-install as a new phone.  I am tired of re-installing as a new phone, as I have now done it with IOS5, 6 & now again 6.0.1, all with the same issue.
