Q: Apple TV - Netflix Streaming issue

I am having problems streaming Netflix on my Apple TV2 since Monday. I had the problem on Sat. night and later on Sunday I updated the software as there was a message about an update and then was able to watch a movie on Sunday night. However the problem reocurred on Monday and since then not gone away. Is anyone else facing a similar situation? and better still does anyone have a solution to this problem? Apple TV support any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Yes but on newer devices. iPhone 4s,5 and iPad 2.

Older devices don't have the performance to do the Mirroring.

    1. Connect your iPhone and your Apple TV to the same Wi-Fi network.
    2. On your iPhone, double-click the Home Button to display your recently used apps.
    3. Swipe your recently used apps twice from left to right until you see the AirPlay icon icon.
    4. Tap the AirPlay icon icon to display a list of available AirPlay devices.
    5. Enable AirPlay Mirroring* from this menu by tapping the name of your Apple TV, then toggle the on/off slider to ON.

Do you know if you can mirror netflix from my phone to ATV?  My ATV stops and buffers ever 10 sec on some of the shows I want to watch, but not at all on others.  but on my phoens, pads and computers it doesnt skip at all, so I want to try mirroring netflix to ATV to watch on my TV...

I have no issues using the native Netflix client so have not tried to mirror. Other users have stated problems with doing so but if that's the case it would be the developers that need to fix it.

Like I said, it works sometimes but most the time it just buffers and stops over and over...  I have called apple and netflix and they both blame each other, neither have the onions to own the problem and fix it... so i am stuck with a non working netflix most the time and have to find a way to work around netflix on ATV2...

I wasn't debating that, I simply said it's fine for me so I can't speak to the Netflix mirroring since I don't have the need for it. If mirroring doesn't work then it's up to the developers to fix it (which would be a separate issue from the buffering).

    Try it and see.

I was getting so frustrated with the poor Netflix performance after updating my Apple TV to the latest version of the iOS software.  I have both the 2nd and 3rd gen units.  I decided to run a wireshark capture against the apple tv while streaming netflix.  I noticed a very strange sawtooth pattern in the bandwidth.  The Apple TV does not smoothly stream the content.  It seems to buffer it a little and then wait a couple of seconds and then buffer again.  Here is a screen capture of the streams bandwidth flow.

    Netflix Issue.png

Next I decided to run netflix on my iPad and use airplay mirroring.  You can see this bandwidth pattern next.  Notice how it is nice and smooth?

This tells me that Apple messed something up with the Apple TV update or Netflix is doing something to traffic that is flowing to Apple TVs.

When I run Netflix to any other device on my network it looks more like the second half.  It is not normal to see stream spikes like above.

Apple PLEASE help.  This is rediculous.

My solution was just go to on your ITV go to GENERAL > Restart... everytime works...

On Xbox, the same... in my case was created for a low bandwidht on my internet service.... Netflix try to low transmission resolution but sometimes just give me this famous atv error code....

Mine worked flawlessly for nearly a year, until about 2 weeks ago. Now I can't get through a movie without it crashing. It seems, for me, to have something to do with that ATV update.

Same here, I have to switch to PS3,xbox360 or other device to watch Netflix without the crashes.

    SOLUTION

    - Give the ATV2 a fixed/static ip on your router

    - on the ATV2 configure the network setting manually. Assign the static ip explicitly

    - restart router and ATV2 for good measure

    The cause

The ATV2 has Rihanna syndrome. It's for ever asking the router, what's my name and the router keep telling it and it keeps forgetting. And every so now and then the router slaps the ATV2 causing netflix to buffer/
