Well I am new to the forums but have been using apple products since the release of the first iphone.  I am pretty tech savvy and have worked on many different apple devices.  I have to say that I do not believe the wifi connection and slow speed issues can be fixed with a update.  I believe there is a hardware issue (faulty or compatibility issue) and the only fix is a replacement.  I have tested around 20 iphone 5's and only one functioned correctly.  I have personally had mine swapped out twice and still no luck.  I have a ipad 1, ipad 2, ipad 3, iphone 3gs, iphone 4, and iphone 5 sitting in front of me right now and every device ranges from 5.23-5.45 dn and .54-.56 up except for the 5.  I have run about 20 test and it ranges from .56-2.6 with about the same up as the others.  Two of my other devices are running IOS 6 without an issue.  I have talked to a few applecare supervisors and a couple of engineers.  They were aware of the problem and said they were working on a fix.  I explained to them that I did not believe it was something they could fix with a software update and they said that they were afraid that I was correct and they should have a solution in a couple of weeks.  The applecare supervisor said she would swap out my phone until I received one that worked properly.

If you are having these problems there is not a fix out there that will eliminate these completely so you should call or schedule an appoint with apple.

    Just a quick 2 cents..

I was going back to the slow YouTube app problems which have been around since the iPhone 3G days, and came across a ?fix to change the b/g/n settings in router to just b/g.

This appears to have solved most of my slow wifi issues, but the choppiness is still there now and again.

The router that I am using at work is only b/g and it is set to mixed.  Have tried on each individually as well with no luck.  I have a N router at home with the same problems.  Pretty bad that my ipad 1 out performs the new best thing!!

The iphone 5 that I tested that worked good was awesome!!  That's all I am asking for here!! LOL

Also just wanted to point out that this is on open and wep networks.  I had to change all my routers that were setup on WPA2 so my phone would somewhat work!

guys, I dont have any problems with my Wifi but i noticed that my phone logs wifid[14] <Error>: WiFi:[371052615.571873]: WiFi unquiescing requested by "locationd" even when WIFI is fully disabled.

would you know what the above message means ? is it possible that is causing my battery to drain quicker than usual ?

Your replys are all way too technical for me. But at least I'm satisfied that I'm not the only one. Do I have to fix this myself,

I have an AT&T iPhone 5 - same issues here.

Almost all of the so-called "solutions" on here are not really solutions.  Adjusting your router to be able to connect with the iPhone is bass ackwards and only helps those who connect exclusively via a home network.  This is an iPhone 5 issue.  It is NOT a router issue.

I would suggest talking to Apple, after trying a lot out I've approached them today and will get my replacement likely on the weekend. It was a pleasant customer service experience for me and I would not want to put all hopes on some IOS 6 update in the near or not so near future.

I changed my wireless router from "MIXED" to "G-ONLY" here at work as well as changing my channel to "5". Everything else stays the same (WEP, default settings).

I ran a speedtest (5, to be exact) on "G-ONLY". Then I tried to run a speedtest back on "B-ONLY" (the only two 802.1 antennas my router offers, I don't have "N"); here you can see the results:

So 10:56- 10:55 AM: G-ONLY 5 tests (but look at the glaring .04 mbps download speed-run)

    Photo Oct 04, 11 01 16 AM.png

    So 10:58- 10:59 AM: B-ONLY (glaring 17.22 mbps upload?)

    & 11 AM: BACK TO G-ONLY

    Photo Oct 04, 11 01 23 AM.png

    CONCLUSION (in my view):

having the wireless router's antenna set to "MIXED" was giving me MIXED speeds, fast one second, slow the next. Apple's ios6 seems to be getting confused in not selecting the optimal wlan signal. It seems to hang onto "B" when "G" would be a better signal, and flip-flop back-and-forth etc.. Selecting only "G" will guarantee that you run much faster, more consistently (but is still not perfect, look at the .04 download speed on "G-ONLY"). THIS STILL does not let apple off the hook for what can only be a poorly executed ios upgrade. We should not have to manually select single wlan broadcast on our routers to get the best of what cupertino has to offer when their ios should have the intelligence to do so on its' own.

I'm having wifi problems on my iPhone 5 on iOS 6 as well. Im only getting 0.5 Mbps download. I normally get 10-15 Mbps download. This is the second iPhone 5 I've tried. The first one had battery and SIM tray issues but the wifi seemed to work better than my current 5. I haven't tried it on other networks yet, just my home network but I'm pretty sure it's not a network issue because it seems to be working fine on my laptop and iPad. I hope this is a software issue and not the phone. I don't want to get the phone replaced again.

    "

The iPhone5 with NO WPA2-AES issues has a MAC Address that starts with 88:53 (Intel Manufactured)"

Sorry, no.  Mine starts with 88:53 and I DO have problems (slow connection on some networks, often.  Not having dropped connection problems).

I agree!  I've been on the phone trying to resolve my WiFi issue for 3 days.  (One Apple rep asked if I had considered purchasing an Apple router.  So I guess that means if everyone in the world would just get an Apple router, we wouldn't have any connection issues.)

Anyway, after resetting the network, resetting all, upgrading my router firmware, restoring through itunes (twice), renaming my router, hardwiring my router to my wireless desktop and reinstalling my router, my home network issue seems to be resolved.  Now if all my friends, family, businesses, etc. would just jump through these hoops, I might be able to connect to their WiFi. Doesn't that sound reasonable?

I'm not sure why but I've been getting full speed all morning. WPA2 security, mixed mode, etc. The same configuration I've gotten the slow speeds with since buying the 5.

    Anyone else seeing unexpected improvement?

Same here.  My iPhone 5 sees the wi-fi but is "Unable to join the network" even with the correct password.   BTW, other users (Blackberry) have no issues off the same Wifi.  Nor does my iPad2 which is also on IOS6.

    What's going on Apple???
