iPhone 5 battery draining very fast

    my 2 years old iphone 4 has more charge after using. My question is if i turn off all the new features or most of them, whats the point using an iphone 5? ive been an apple fan since iphone 3, hope they fix it soon, i dont want to worry about power when i go out at least , all i do is message on phone and listen to songs. i slept last night with 85% charge woke up with 65% thats after two time charging through out the day, reset and turning off things not working. .

    My IBoat 5 is having the same issues with the battery. I have turned off just about everything and in 2 hr 34 min of stand by, my power is down to 72%

    I am having the wifi issue also AND I'm not in an area with good LTE so that drains the battery. I cannot turn off wifi AND LTE and be able to use this phone ONLY on 3g all the time thus using my plan all up for data each month and costing me a ton more. I need my wifi to work properly if LTE won't. This phone is a disaster. At half the cost I might have wanted to not use such strong language but, here in Canada the 32 gig is eight hundred plus. If hadn't had my 4 stolen I'd go right back to it. The 5 was not ready for prime time.

    and an update.... 3hr 56 min since last charge reading on both usage and stand by 56% battery life

    My update. I'm at 61% after 6 hours and 48 minutes of LTE use. Not closing apps- just normal use. 64GB white Verizon.

    The phone is also bumping me off my wifi and automatically going onto 3g. I have to constantly keep an eye on this if I'm trying to use my wifi for video or something as I'm using up my data plan when on 3g. The 4 never did this and no one else in this household gets bumped off the wifi. When I go into my settings it still says my wifi is on. Maybe the battery life will get some better with LTE off and with doing the recharging cycles but, some of the other issues are unacceptable as well. I thought part of the drain problem was LTE only getting two bars so the phone was always going to 3g and back to LTE thus using more battery and indeed that IS part of it. But this other issue with wifi is rather bizarre. I do not want my phone cycling between 3g and wifi automatically so I have to constantly check what service I am using. I know when I take this phone in they are likely to offer me another one but, I think most of the 5's are having similar issues.


    Darkfiremen, thanks for your update. This really is a shame. I have loved all my other Apple products but, this is really too much with all the glitches this phone has. It's not "just" the fact it costs what it does or that there may need to be some updates released, that is irritating but, the most irritating thing is the wasted time and inconvience overall. This upgrade was no upgrade at all and was not worth the effort or money. I never thought I'd say that about an Apple product but, there it is.

    I agree and if Steve Jobs was till around, This problem would never have lasted this long nor would he have released an operating system with so many untested issues (ie Maps)

    I think you are right. There ought to have been some official response by now and maybe even a recall. This product is not "Apple" worthy. I think loyalty could be kept with a swift response. Major publications are addressing this issue all over the place so it is not just a few people posting on these forums noticing these problems. It's quite shocking really.

    It's identical to the iPhone 4 death grip/failed antenna design that apple managed to sweep under the rug, and everyone just 'accepted' its fail.  Enough is enough.

    Handsfull, I never had the iphone 4 antenna problem. My 4 worked like a dream from day one. Had it not been stolen I'd still be using it. I know the 4 antenna problem affected a lot of people but, this seems to affect more people than it doesn't. Also, the wifi problems listed on another thread..I don't think to be fair the antenna issue was swept under the rug. I'll wait to see what Apple's response is to this but, I DO expect my phone to function as advertised fully with any updates. LTE at two bars and constant switching back and forth ought to have been mentioned if it would cause a big battery drain and whether or not it is IO6, something has to be done. I seem to have read somewhere when this was an issue with the 4S an update was released? I wouldn't know too much about those issues as I never had a 4S. Only had the 4 and now the 5.

    Raf:  I can absolutely 100% promise you that the antenna was not only of a defective design (apple finally, after saying nothing about it for a LONG time) admitted the problem, and 'band-aided' it with a free iPhone bumper.  That is like giving out a free roll of duct tape to a someone who bought a new car and the body panels are falling off.  They never recalled their faulty product after admitting it was faulty.  No other manufacture that I'm aware of could have such a blatant hardware FAIL and not issue a recall.


    That aside, I just left the apple store with first hand knowledge of ios6 being the issue. The 'genius's' I spoke to were VERY careful in wording the issue, they appeared as I'd they were trying not to get on trouble for saying it but iOS 6 is the culprit of the battery drain.  There is no 'fix' until an update will be released. He offered me a new phone but stated it won't be of any value as an update is needed to remedy the issue.  FWIW: LTE isn't offered (yet) in my area, so LTE 'switching' back and forth due to low signal strength isn't the primary cause of the drain....apps running in background AND springboard crashing (crash log is RIDDLED with springboard crashes) is the primary cause of this issue.  Easiest way to verify this claim is to fully Charge your phone to 100%. Unplug. Leave on standby overnight, then check usage/standby will show actual usage being around an hour for a 8 hour span WITHOUT being touched! 


    Finally, even the genius' phones has the same issue, they even showed me their usage page with a drown on their face.  Lol.

    I really am pretty sure this is software related, and really i have seen enough iOS roll outs to feel comfortable that as usualy seen apple will address it and has been working on this.


    i am annoyed with the poor battery life like everyone else has been.  i am not fully worried yet though.  as always just because apple has been mostly silent on the topic does not mean they are not aware.  when a usable fix is found and built into a workable patch we will all get the fix.  be patient.

    less then 6 hrs and its time to charge it. no WiFi and No Blue tooth

    My thought/concern is the fact that Apple hasn't at least acknowledge it.  I'm sure they know but the fact they haven't said makes me think they don't know how to fix it, or the "solution" won't be pretty for us users.


    So far today I just started with a fresh charge and just turned off the battery % and left all the rest on and am just using it normally, as I did for 2yrs with my 3G and 4.  To see if I notice/bothers me as much.  I know it's still happening and needs to be fixed for sure as I shouldn't have to pick and choose between functionally just to keep it on.  But in the mean time I think not seeing those numbers and not knowing EXACTLY how much it's going down, does give me a little more piece of mind.  At least till a fix :-)

    But do you really want them to aknowledge something with no answer to a fix.  they don't typically speak about something with no solution or fix
