Does anyone know if growlhelper.app necessary as a Login Item in Mountain Lion? Is it just left over from my Leopard system?

How about HPEventHandler & HP Scheduler with an HP? necessary or just if I want to be notified?

MacBook (13-inch Aluminum Late 2008), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2), & another partition with Leopard

None of those are necessary, especially the printer items unless you are using your printer daily and scheduling print jobs. I had the same items for my Epson, deleted them and the printer is still working. As for Growl, that is up to you - I very much dislike it so I would not allow it on my machine at all.

That's nice if your HP has that capability to notify you - my Epson does not. Actually, there is no warning whatsoever until after I start the printing process; then I get a message on the LCD screen "out of paper".......
