Don't know if it will work for you, but if I turn cell data off, the. I can join and stay linked to the Wi-Fi.

just got back from Apple... they replaced mine.    The guy who was helping me said its a known issue and that it has to due with the encryption of some routers... something about making sure its a WPA...blah blah and he lost me.    I told him thats simply not true being that every other ipod and iphone can connect to my home wifi.  He said its an issue just with the iphone 5.    Either way they replaced but he flat out said he can't guarantee I won't have the same problem.

Well, I have an AirPort Extreme, most recent version with the latest firmware updates and I'm still having problems with WiFi and my iPhone 5. My other Apple devices are fine, just the iP5. I've changed the SSID name, the channel, the, well, everything. One at a time and in various groupings. The 5 Mhz setting solved the problem for about 5 minutes, then I was back to 0.5 Mbps down. Oddly, my upload speeds are much better.... sometimes as good as 3 or 4 Mbps. The idea of doing a return of the device to Apple and waiting another month or so for a replacement does not appeal to me. If I could get even a peep from Apple that the problem has been recognized and they are doing something about it I could find the patience to wait. Otherwise, that Samsung device is looking mighty nice.... Or I wonder if I can have my iP4 re-activated without a fee from ATT....?

Same prob here. I backed up my iPhone 3GS with iOS 6, then activated my iPhone 5 and restored my backup. It can connect to my remembered wifi networks, and I can open a single page in Safari, but then data transfer just STOPS. If I turn of wifi it works over LTE, but if I turn wifi back on, it will load a single web page and then stop again. This issue seems to be common enough that Apple should acknowledge it as a bug. I have an appt at the Genius Bar tomorrow, but not hopeful that they'll fix it. And I WILL NOT agree to wiping the phone and starting from scratch, as it would take days to re-install and re-configure everything. Come on Apple, if you're going to release products that are not ready for prime time and damage your customers' good will, then at least step up and fix the problem quickly.

After my 3rd phone call with Apple they are sending me a replacement.  Mine is an AES issue however it is not my router since a friends Iphone 5 works just fine on my home network along with all my other Apple devices with IOS6.  It was my iphone 5 that had the issue.  The Apple rep was friendly and helpful but cryptic in his answers.  He admits there is an issue and Apple is working on it.  He made it sound like they don't know if it is a software or harware issue.  I had to send them some files and they want my phone for testing.  He also said there is no guarantee that my replacement will work.  It sounds like a lottery if you get a good phone or not.

I thought I had fixed the issues I had with the wifi here at my job.  Unfortunately, now they are arising again. I will log into the wifi, enter the password and the wifi status bar will go on at full bars.  It will work for a few minutes until my phone goes to sleep. I then will unlock the phone to use and the wifi again will come up but only for a few minutes.  It will then send back to 4G/LTE.  This isn't a hardware issue, right? I never had these issues with my 4S. Could it be fixed with a software update?

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

I spoke to Apple Support yesterday and they were very efficient. After I explained my issues the guy said they'd just have to check I'd done a hard rest before replacing. I told him I'd already tried that and that was it. Didn't ask me to mess around with my router or anything, just agreed to send a new one out. He also said iPhone 5 replacements were top priority.

I can only presume that as they were quite happy to do a replacement without too much trouble that Apple think this is a hardware issue. If you're having these problems I'd get it changed before you're 14 return period expires rather than waiting on a software fix that may not come.

Great news! Hopefully bad experiences like mine and others will get fewer and farther between as the information propagates thru their support network. (hopefully they don't have any information filters enabled ;-)

Agree 100% on tackling this agressively during the return period.

Filmstar, dont think that a replacement will immediately solve all your problems, as it can be seen here in these posts. Ios6 users all over (ipad, iphone 4/4s, et. Al) are reporting wifi issues.

I called Apple Support yesterday and they're sending a replacement. The tech seemed to think my issue was more hardware based but I don't know for sure. I am having some weird cellular behavior as well as slow wifi. We'll see how the replacement performs.

This is my  second iphone5 still will not work. Is it hardware or software? I just wish Apple would tell us what they think is  wrong. I have try everything works for a little bit and they stop working again.

I had WiFi issues on the iPhone 5  and couldn't resolve them. They (Apple) sent me a new unit and it's no better than the one it replaced. After reading all the posts of folks with older phones and iPads exhibiting the same problem after updating to iOS 6, I surmise this is some odd bug in the OS. Combined with the fact that the iPhone 5 is the only device to date with a chipset that talks to 5Ghz spectrum on WiFi, who knows for sure?

I have devices running IOS6 without any issues so I am not convinced this is the problem with the 5.  I can put my iPad 3 with ios6 nest to my 5 and it's 5-10 times faster.
