If there's one thing Ive learned following this, is that there is nothing in common but IOS6. Some iphone5's have problems, some dont. Some iphone4S's have wifi problems and some don't, some ipads have problems and some dont. Even the specific problems arent the same from device to device. I have yet to see anyone with what I have and what solves it, but my wife's iphone 5 shows absolutely no problems and mine shows it with 3 different brands of routers.

Some people with 4S's were able to restore to 5.1.1 and all problems went away. And more reports of people who thought problems were fixed with new hardware are coming in, and there are more and more people saying that new hardware was the same problems. But still, the only thing common to all the problems is IOS6. I suspect its software. NOw will Apple solve it, who knows, and how long will it take.

Anyway, nobody at this point can say that it is a hardware or software issue for sure..

I truly hope that it is a software problem and it can all be fixed with a download!!  If that is the case then apple needs to get their sh*t together and get the fix out so we can talk about something else!

I spent an hour on the phone this evening with Apple support with my wifi issues. Unable to get more than .5 Mbps on the download. Going in for a new iPhone 5 in 2 days. I have 3 possible wireless networks at home and could not get anything to work. However, the iPhone 5 had no issue connecting to PEAP at work and downloads of 35 Mbps. I am not sure I am convinced it is a hardware issue. We will see what happens when I get the next iPhone.

All - great thread an I hope we get answers from Apple...soon!

I'm in the BOSTON, MA area and have LTE service. Having tried three IPHONE5 64GB BLACK on VZW, all with wifi connectivty and throughput problems I finally gave up and returned the last unit to Verizon for a refund. Same wifi problems on all three, both at home and at work (i.e. different router brands, but maybe not router wifi chipsets & stacks). All three handsets made between WW34 and WW38 in Foxconn "DN" factory with Apple MACs in the Murata/SyChip wifi module.

Remembering that my Apple Airport Express was not wifi CERTIFIED, I went to the WiFi Alliance to hunt the IPHONE5 - it is not listed as WiFi Alliance Certified, so who knows about interoperability. Check out the link

When I looked on the IPHONE5 packaging, I did not see a WiFi certified logo either...so maybe the difficulty in isolating this to hardware versus IOS6 is that simple?  - who knows - and some specific and clear information from Apple would be appreciated. I hope it's not the composite 2.4GHz/5GHz antenna compromise as than can;t be fixed by "holding it right".  I'd love to buy a reliable IPHONE5.

BTW - my IPHONE4S now with IOS6 has no such wifi problems and it also has an Apple issued MAC.

Verizon released a specific fix for your problem - it's different.

You needed an update from them. Apple didn't tell you?

mccosha> Verizon fix is only to prevent LTE from being used while connected to a WiFi network. His problem is not different from ours..

I must be one lucky son of a biatch.  I bought the iphone 5 64 gb black with Verizon and I don't have any issues yet.  No Wifi problems, no battery drainage problems, nothing.

not sure what you mean....I bought it with my new Imac in June 2010...it is a white rectangular looking thing that I simply plug into my wall outlet.

Ok so it is definitely not the last gen with dual-band. This is the last gen : http://www.apple.com/airportexpress/

I would have to agree mine is more rectangular that looks squarish.
