Have a look at Lightroom 4 free trial at adobe.com
use two monitors or a monitor and a projector; one for the slideshow and one for Lightroom
Create a slideshowin Lightroom then export as a QT video
show the Quicktime in full screen then return to Lightroom to import using tethered feature of your camera

thanks for the reply.
But if lightroom has to export the slideshow as a QT video, how can I add pictures to the slideshow as I go? I dont want to render a new QT every 5 minutes and it wont be seamless as I have to stop the old video and start a new video
We need the new pictures to seamlessly incorporate into the slideshow that is playing.

I finally got an answer:
two monitor set up, with your first monitor you can drop new pictures into the screensaver folder, while the second monitor is playing the slideshow and refreshes every 5 minutes:
do shell script "/System/Library/Frameworks/ScreenSaver.framework/Resources/ScreenSaverEngine.a pp/Contents/MacOS/ScreenSaverEngine -background &> /dev/null &"
tell application "ScreenSaverEngine" to quit
