Wow you are right ! I just turned the BT on and then turned it back off and I got 2X the maximum speed I got previously. It bumped from 500k/s to 1000k/s and now the new low is 100k/s instead of 50k/s. Will see if it lasts over time..

Fascinating. Thanks for testing. But remember, "the world's most advanced smartphone" should be able to walk & chew gum at the same time. I'd still consider it a temporary workaround, not a fix.

This would be at best a clue to give Apple engineers something else to go on, and to look for while figuring this out.

Try changing dns settings to 8.8.8.8 or 8.8.4.4

Yep, I'm moving from thinking there were a whole bunch of discretely different wifi issues to thinking the underlying cause of a lot of these things is the same, just varying in severity. Which points more toward the underlying issue being hardware. We'll see.

I'm still mostly on the software side of the coin Mostly because of the ipad/older iphones/itouch problems with wifi that cropped up with ios6. There could be variences in hardware that will require tailoring software settings to each one, but some stuff is def software related (802.11n and 802.11r spec stuff)

So, I just bought and installed a new Apple Extreme router.  Problem now solved!  Consistent speed on the iPhone 5 and same speed as iPads and laptops on my network.

I don't think we should all go out and but current gen Apple routers, but this did solve my issue, for now (fingers crossed).

BTW - bluetooth has remained on the whole time.  I did not adjust that setting with this iPhone 5.  I tried with the previous one but it made no difference for me.

Problem solved for me (using the Bluetooth ON/OFF fix). I did some extra testing & turning Bluetooth back on & then doing the Speedtest I got the same speeds. In either cases, speeds are back to normal. Points to a software issue I think..

Great! Definitely important to try your phone on at least a few different routers before you decide it's the phone.

Just shut off bluetooth and my iphone 5 is now pulling faster speed tests than my ipad. What... the... heck...

Hopefully that is the problem. If so, I wonder if Apple will give the guys on the forum their Engineers salaries for doing their job for them.

Great, hope it stays working and doesn't "leak" back to instability. Yeah, software, hardware I really have no clue. These things are so complex.

I miss the smartphones we had back in the '70's. Something went wrong, you popped the hood and could fix it yourself.

Same here! iPhone 5 64GB black. I have a few issues to be honest... :/

    - WIFI connection issues while my Airport is only 2 meters away from me. iPad 3 has no problem at all!

    - Bad call quality. Granted, not all the time but more than I would like and more than my 4S (Same network, same area)

    - Camera does not focus as fast as my 4S, resulting in blurry images.

Anyone advice me what to do now? Apple? Do your read this? Should I go back and ask for a replacement? I live in Belgium and the offical dealer here is Mobistar which is not ok if you want some after sales service :/

Btw: I love my 5! Weird but it's a fact!

UPDATE: It's been an hour since cycling bluetooth off/on. My iPhone is still speed testing equal to or faster than my ipad.

my problem is definitely bluetooth related. I got home and everyhitng was perfect. So I went back out to the car, had it pair with my car and came back in, no connectivity whatsoever. Cycled bluetooth off and on, and everything is back to normal.

Note: this problem is also present on the 5gz network as well when it occurs. I am going to unpair and repair the phone with my car and see if it makes any difference.

Same for me, speeds are on par with my MacBook Air, iPad 3 & iPhone 4
