Same here. Both my iPad 3 and iPhone 5 will only have sound come through Apple TV. No video at all. I switched to iPad 2 with iOS5 and everything works perfectly. What happened in ios6? The reason I drank the Apple cool aid all the time is that EVERYTHING worked. I didn't have to worry or question what did and didn't work. Apple worked. PC didn't.  Now with this problem and Apple maps and Apple telling me everything is the best and its obviously not, I now have to question everything that Apple puts out. I'm back to the old days questioning everything. Steve Jobs had a great company running at a level that I didn't need to question. Now it's not. Really sad. Apple, I hope you don't fall into the bottom line type of buisness because it won't last. Make a product that you stand behind and not something that you are scared of your stock holders. Sad.

I'm on iPad 3 with 2nd gen ATV

Was experiencing same issues after recent iOS 6 update.

Just went to settings -> AirPlay and it was turned off by default on the Apple TV.

Since turning it on, it fixed the issues.

    Shameless plug....

Also happens to me with Youtube on iPhone 4 and ATV2, I get only audio. Other Apps like Airvideo send audio and video to ATV without issues

    Hi Everyone,

hope this message finds you all in time. The recent Apple TV update 5.1 is terrible. Apple knows it is which is why (thankfully for some relentless user -I have no idea who but I believe it was under threat) they have allowed to sign 5.0.2 again which means you can downgrade your Apple TV 2 and 3 to a 5.0.2 version via iTunes. Who knows how long they will keep the window open but I have downgraded my ATV early this morning. I couldn't post this earlier because I was out all day but I am doing it now.

    Here's how to do it:

    1) Connect your ATV to your computer via a Mini USB (not included with ATV but included with many other electronic devices) - in order for your ATV to appear in iTunes you must FIRST plug the USB cable to your computer and ATV and only THEN plug the power cable.

    2) Download your ipsw restore file from Apple.

    5.0.2 (ATV 2): AppleTV2,1_5.0.2_9B830_Restore.ipsw

    5.0.2 (ATV 3): AppleTV3,1_5.0.2_9B830_Restore.ipsw

    3) In iTunes select yout ATV, hold SHIFT and click on Restore

    4) Find and choose the downloaded IPSW file in the Open Dialog Box and hit Next

    5) As long as Apple still signs that version the Restore process will begin and will take a few minutes to complete.

    Enjoy!

    raadore

    Hi,

Step 1 above confuses me - where would you plug in the cable on the ATV3?

    Thanks,

    Magnus

I was having a problem with Audio passing through to Apple TV from iPhone 4S running ios 6.

I unplugged and replugged the HDMI cable and now it works fine. Hope that helps someone.

Holding SHIFT and clicking Restore did not prompt me to select the file I downloaded. As a result, my Apple TV just reset itself to factory settings. I was only using it for AirPlay videos to a public display in my building, so this shouldn't be a big deal.

But how to get the prompt to revert the software update version back to 5.0.2?

I am about to try using AirPlay again, maybe the factory settings cured its ills.

I'm having the same problem and believe that this post won't help many people in here, but I'm posting it with hopes that someone more experienced than me will be able to use the information to help us.

My IPhone 4 with iOS 6.0.1 can't AirPlay when I use non-apple brand routers (I tested Linksys and D-link routers), but I noticed that AirPlay works fine when using my Airport Extreme (purchased mid 2011) with the latest OS version.

P.S.: I have sent this feedback to Apple.

Apple have changed things a bit...

You can't from your browsers just play any video you want.

However if you first double click your home button then swipe left to the music controls then select the display output to Apple TV with mirroring off.

Any video you play will be on your Apple TV ....

Well it works for me and I don't have apple routers....

    Hope that helps.

I am having the same problem with my new iPhone 5. Tried streaming some music to my Apple TV that is hooked up to my stereo. Music just keeps skipping and fading in and out. Totally unlistenable.

What is wrong with it?!? How could Apple release something with such a huge bug!

    Any ideas for troubleshooting?
