Getting the same issues here as well - 09 mac book.
In regards to the folks with memory issues. This almost sounds like the imac issues we had when we maxed out at 16 gig. Problem was the memory (kingston) when we ordered samsung from OWC (or your choice of retailer) the over heating and lockups stopped.
While I doubt this is causing all of the issues we are all experiencing, just my two cents.

There is an incremental update available - wonders if it will help. Although I don't have 64gb RAM :-)

I crashed again yesterday. That's three crashes in under a week. My experience with 10.8.2 is worse, not better.

I'm installing the OS X 10.8.2 Supplemental Update 1.0:
Let's see if that helps...

same problem with my late 2008 17" MBP, running 10.8.2 with the latest supplemental update, it froze again tonight, cursor moves fine but nothing happens, doesnt matter what keystrokes I use the only fix is a cold reboot then it works fine

I dont notice any trend when my frezzes, it has done it twice now in the past week, just surfing along or it has been sitting a minute or two then try to use it and the only thing that works is the cursor, no screen flashes either, everything looks fine just wont respond to anything but a forced shutdown

I've been running the 10.8.2 Supplemental Update for a day; without crashing. Hope springs eternal!

I am going back to snow leopard, I didnt like Lion and I thought ML was so much better, seemed snappier and better but I am not going to put up with this freezing there is obviously a memory leak or something, let me know when it goes away...........

I clean installed lion about a week ago and since then I have of course not had any problems, no freezing, no power button restarts.....this is obviously not a fix to the issue but it does show it's isolation to moutain liona

Four days with OS X 10.8.2 Supplemental Update 1.0, and no crashes yet. That's after having three crashes in less than a week just before the update. It's too early to know anything for sure, but I'm trying to be optimistic…

I am using a Mid 2010 MBP 13.
I hope, we can find a solution for this. I've been experiencing atleast 2 crashes/freezing a day since i've upgraded to Mountain Lion. Only pressing the power button for a few seconds solves the freezing. I'm getting very annoyed with this. With SL I don't have this kind of problem.

I did a clean install late saturday (10/6) of snow leopard and have yet to have anything unusual happen, I miss some of the bells and whistles of ML but I sure dont miss the freezing up, kind of feels like I am home again lol, if they ever issue an update that fixes it of course I will reinstall 10.8 but I am not hopeful as they never really fixed Lion and then issued what seems to be an even more buggy OS, sorry just telling it like it is there is no bigger Apple fan than I am

as far as it being a problem with a particular program I was not able to replicate this, after it started freezing a few weeks ago I did a clean (USB) install of ML and did not install a single 3rd party program and it started freezing again and seemed to get worse with the supplemental update, I rolled back to SL last weekend and have yet to have a single issue even after conservatlvely installing more programs, just like the good ole days but I miss the icloud integration, etc, but I can live without it for now

just curious, is anyone who is having crashes using the flip4mac new beta for ML? I just remembered that was the only 3rd party program I was running on the last clean install of ML when it was freezing before I rolled back to SL

Very helpful. I had the freeze problem with the Crucial M4-CT512M4SSD2 for months after I installed the SSD in my MacBook Pro un Summer 2011 (it would take 20-30 seconds freeze pauses in between, some times I had to restarts, but mostly it would just show wheel of death for 20-30 seconds), and after updating the firmware back then it worked flawlessly. Around September 2012 a new freeze problem came about, exactly as described. The whole machine freezes about every hour and has to be rebooted.
I will try to update to 10G, remembering how annoying it was last time to burn a CD and all for a Mac with an update designed for PC. But it will work, I hope!
Thanks for posting it!
