I just wanted to add my voice to the battery drain problem in the hope that a fix is done. I have an iPhone 4 and upgrading to iOS 6 has meant that my battery is drained about 50% faster than normal. That is a guesstimate. Normally I have plenty of battery from 7am until 11pm when I put it in the dock overnight. Now by 5 or 6pm it runs out.

    Hi

How did you downgrade to 5.1.1 ??

I would be really interested to know.

    Thanks

I didn't. I have left iOS 6 for now. Hoping that Apple will put out a fix in the near future.

I had the same problem, i used to charge almost 4 times a day.

Today I just removes the facebook app and in two hours just spent 7%

I think FB or other like apps consume the data traffic in real time.

Make the same test and let me know.

This is weird, for 2 days my phone would stay on 100% for a good 3 hours and drain maybe 8% every hour, I got 10 hours of usage and 24.5 hours on stand by. I made the mistake of letting the battery drain after I did that and let it charge it started draining just like it did when I got iOS 6 now I am currently going to do a restore and my itunes says my iphone is doing a software update. I have no idea what this is.

I'm going to try the following,
Since my Iphone is one week old, I can affort myself to start over again with contacts, etc. I will start over again and let you guys know if the draining is still that frustrating.

I've also read some information about other smartphones, you are only able to do the upgrade of the operating system when your battery is charged for 100%. So I'll charge my phone to 100%, do the hard reset with Itunes, and start a completely new phone.

I'll let you guys know if it worked in 4 hours or so.

I too would like to upgrade back to iOS 5.

The only ways I saw we're by jail breaking or rooting, or an iTunes method.  I tried using iTunes but did not see an option to choose any iOS 5 backup, just to restore it as a new phone with iOS 6 presumably.

Yes. My battery usage is very wonky too. I'll think it's fixed, then the battery starts draining like mad. I've tried many of the "fixes" and right now battery is okay, but I have no idea why. I'm convinced this is a fixable bug that Apple is ignoring.

I've viewed my iPhone as a part of myself or a really good friend and that probably wasn't very healthy. Now when I look at it, the luster is gone. It has become just another phone. I'll always remember my first iPhone and know that I'll never feel that way again.

Another new battery issue has just started with my iPhone 4S. In addition to the battery drain with iOS 6, this morning I noticed that the battery isn't staying at 100% when plugged in. It now fluctuates between 99% & 100% while being plugged in and used even after being plugged in for 10 yours over night. If iOS 6 kills my iPhone's hardware Apple better replace my device(s) for free, because as of the 14th I will have had my 4S a year.

    Update:

The main problem with my iPhone 4s battery after upgrading to iOS6 is that it's draining very fast when I use my phone.

Usage stats show that the phone is working when in standby mode (though it shouldn't because I'm not doing anything, all my apps are closed from the bar and the activity monitor app shows that only most basic processes are running, like phone, messages etc.) BUT the drain isn't that big when I'm not using it.

Ufortunately just when I start to use the iPhone the battery starts to drain, especially when I use cellular data but it's awful with just wi-fi on and even when I'm completely offline.

I tried switching location services, push notifications etc. off, reseting settings, restoring from backup, finally restoring as new but none of these really helped. I can't use iPhone throughout the day without the need to recharge it.

Today I tried removing my SIM card and using my phone with wi-fi only and then in the airplane mode. It was draining less but still more than with iOS 5.1.1. The interesting thing I've seen was that before I removed my SIM card the battery level was 94% but when I removed it and turned my phone on again it showed 100%! That's strange and I don't know what to think about it - just thought that maybe it'd be useful for somebody who knows more about this problem.

As most of you I think that Apple should let us downgrade NOW and make a fix ASAP + INFORM us what are they doing to resolve this problem. Also - I hope that using iOS 6 won't affect future battery life and if it would - that Apple would replace my iPhone (which is only 6 months old).

It seems strange we would need to convince Apple that if something worked fine, and an OS upgrade created these issues, which it did, that its a software not a hardware issue.

It may be that the hardware is not optimized for the OS, causing bugs or software solutions to work overtime to compensate, but if my phone ran great on iOS5, and I started getting battery issues, mitigated by resetting and turning off things, and iOS brought all these problems with battery life, just using Safari even, IT IS A SOFTWARE ISSUE.  If iOS 6 ruins my battery permanently, it was still caused by a software issue.

The new iPhone 5, or at least most of them seem great, but I don't want Apple releasing another OS next year that breaks it and then blames me or my phone.

Come on Apple.  Show us you can understand this and that you care here please.

Can't your management understand we're trying to give you the benefit of the doubt, but the few reps calling this a hardware issue and the official silence is turning sentiment as fast as these phones are losing battery life?

Even an iOS 6 lite mode that let us toggle those new features not optimized for iPhone 4 would be acceptable.  You probably owe us the ability to log and view what apps, apple or otherwise, are eating up what battery and bandwidth too at this point.  Never needed them on iOS but they seem handy when android behaves this way.

This is exactly what I was thinking... battery drain issue results in excessive charging which in turn reduces the lifetime of the battery (they only have so many charge cycles in them). Fast forward xx months, battery is failing early and needs to be replaced - who eats the bill? Apple or the customer?

I lost all faith yesterday when I went to our local Apple Store and spoke with a "Genius". My faith was restored today when an Apple rep called. He went over my wifes phone settings. How she used the phone and he ran something to check the physical battery which passed  He also set up the tracking app to monitor the phone and battery usage. I should get a call on Tuesday to send the data back to Apple. I really felt good knowing this is being looked at.

My experience with the "Genius had me convinced I was done with Apple. I'm glad to say I have new confidence but I'm still upset with the way the Genius treated me. He was the most condescending person I've ever spoke with. I told him of the forum and discussions on the battery problem. That this was potentially a serious issue. He basically told me that those people just don't know anything and the all I needed to do was to backup the phone and to a complete restore. He gave me some line of bull about old apps not shutting down properly. He said alot of people have to do this when the OS is updated. I didn't try to delve into this more, but I also brought up my Bluetooth conectivity issues and he said, oh yes, this is the manufactures problem and it happens everytime there is an update. He said it happened to him too and he had just updated his firmware to fix his car deck. In essence he lied to me as I know from following the thread that no one has issued a firmware fix.

So thanks to Robert, the rep who called me, I'm happy to say I feel this will be resolved at some point.
