I have recenlty updated to IOS 5.1.1 on my iphone 4. Everything was working fine for the last month until last night i was facing this strange issue. I have been getting this error "Charging is not supported with this accessory" whenever i was trying to charge my iphone.

It was ******* me off. I changed my iphone charger, changed the dock connector but nothing seemed to worked.

I was searching through different forums until I came upon this strange but effective solution and it worked .

Install this free app from appstore "BATTERY DOCTOR". Then plug the charger to the wall socket and wait for the magic to work . No matter if it's 10% battery remaining or 20%, the battery will begin to charge normally

This message appears to be indicating that your device is receiving insufficient power.

    Possible causes:

    • iPad and iPhone plugged in to same computer (iPad pulling too much current, so iPhone reports low power)
    • damaged cable (try another cable)
    • damaged power supply (try another brick, or different USB port, or different computer)
    • cord only half-way in (pull the usb and 30-pin or lightening and re-insert them)

I noticed this message when I plugged my iPhone 5 in while the iPad was syncing (and charging slowly).  After a moment of "oh crap", I unplugged the iPad and the problem went away.  This may be a poorly worded way of learning when you have too many things plugged into your USB hub.

Hello everybody i cannot believe this discussion is STILL going on. It has been months since the message first starting appearing and STILL no solution from apple. However it has affected them no matter how slight. I have been watching ebay selling iphone 4 and 4s for less than 200 300 for the 4s. Thats quite a drop since i sold my 4 six weeks ago for 350. Wake up apple and smell the coffee, its boiling over.

The solution is clean or fix the broken connector on the phone. It's probably one of the reason's Apple changed the connector in the iPhone 5; they almost said as much in the announcement, claiming that the new connector is more durable. Which implies that the current connector is less durable.

This is spam.  The app doesn't change the charging problem, and it attempts to access calendars for some reason.

I posted a few months ago about this and like someone else said, can't believe this thread is still going. I get notifications almost daily that someone has posted. Just a word to any recent posters who are still saying it's a bad cord, bad or dirty doc, too many things plugged in, etc., etc. etc. IT'S NOT. I tried ALL of these solutions. Different cords, had the dock changed out at a repair place, plugged into PC, plugged into outlets...all the same. I truly believe it's a software "bomb" placed in the software upgrades that eventually forces the user to either upgrade to a newer IPhone or get a different phone all together if you get that fed up with Apple. There is a new software upgrade (6). NO WAY am I going to install this upgrade. I'm on my 4th Iphone...the 4GS (the others all had this problem) and I've been pretty happy with this phone so far. Bottom line is THE ONLY SOLUTION IS TO GET A DIFFERENT PHONE.

I think everyone has to realise that Apple dont care for their customers and especially if you are on old phones - I decided to leave due to these issues as Apple just didnt want to acknowledge there was an issue - So I am went with the Samsung Galaxy 3 which I really love and so far ok on support and charging.

Really it comes to a choice stay with Apple or move as Apple don't seem to care.

PS I also tried all the remedies and nothing worked along with taking my phone into Apple where they told me there was nothing wrong!!!!!!

Rebo968 I totally agree with you, however when i suggested a few months back that it was a hidden way for someone to get back at those who jailbreak **** rained down on my comment.Asstar was also commenting then. So we know Nothing has been done and dont seem to be a concern for apple developers. Last thought  if you cant live with it join the ranks of those who have surrendered and lay down your iphone pick up a android.

My issue just started 5 Oct. I updated to IOS 6 a week or so ago. I have'nt jailbroke my phone, no water damamge....No cord issue, It's the software itself. I'm sure it's just another bug apple is giving everyone so they can line their pockets when everyone upgrades to iphone 5. It's been almost 12 hrs & the phone STILL isn't fully charged. I even get the error message when connected with itunes.

The trouble is at this moment in time Apple think they can do whatever they want and get away with totally dissrespecting their customers. I suppose you can't blame them for believing they can do this, after all, they have more money in the bank than some countries have and they probably feel that they can walk on water and perform other mind-boggling miracles.

However, I take comfort in the fact that nothing last forever and that all things are cyclic - 'what comes around, goes around' as the old saying says. Their insatiable greed will be their undoing. There is no one at the helm with any vision anymore and there in lies the beginning of their end.

Apple hasn't only let its customers down, it has let itself down. They have become like all the other companies that in the past it strived dissociate itself from. When once it dared to 'Think different' it now thinks like all the rest.

    What a pity.

I agree.....& all this youtube crap of telling you to turn it off....turn it back on....press this press that download battery doc is CRAP. It's the operating system itself. It is however charging...a very SLOW trickle charge.

    I guess i should've stuck with the S3 i bought  2 months ago......Whatta tard moment i had when i sold it.......

Katskan...you hit the nail on the head. My issues didn't start until I updated the software. I refuse to update to 6 because I know I'll have issues. These phones can last a long time if taken care of so I believe this is Apples way of speeding up the process to get you into the latest phone.

I've tried every plug i have....from the original to after maket....Wall plugs, usb to laptop,....car charger, usb to usb port in car...same message everytime. Apple probably also  seen a problem with their plugs/ports on the older phones...Or why else would they have changed it all on the iphone5 ...It's ALL about the allmighty $$..

14 hours on charge & it will not get above 74% charge....Yes, i compressed air cleaned it ...even used a brush to clean the port just so i could say i tried all that nonsense too....If it was a bad port like some suggest...It wouldn't charge at all & itunes wouldn't reccognize my phone at all when hooked up......

    OH JOY......
