Q: PCI Expresscard USB 3.0 Card W/Mac drivers not recognized as a 3.0 only 2.0

I just purchased one of the only PCI expresscards for my powerbook it's specifically for a mac so that I can run USB with 3.0 speed.

The Card is: USB 3.0 ExpressCard HBU3MAC 2-Port SuperSpeed USB 3.0 Card (Mac Version)

I downloaded and installed the drivers but the speed is still compairable to USB 2.0.

I checked my system preferences on the driver / USB Hardware and the drive is recognized as speeds up to 480mb/ sec.

NOT 5gb as it should.

This piece set me back $100 after shipping. So it's very agrivating at the moment. If anyone could please help It would be greatly appreciated.

PowerBook, Mac OS X (10.6.8), MacBook Pro3,1 Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2

Hello,

It's specifically for a Mac, but a MacBook and not a PowerBook.
The OS Requirements are Mac OS X 10.6
Your PowerBook wont run Mac OS X 10.6, so I assume you have Mac OS X 10.5.8
As it's backward compatible and your running it on a unsupported Mac, I would assume it to default to USB 2.0.

Your question maybe best asked in the MacBook Pro forum here https://discussions.apple.com/community/notebooks/macbook_pro

Just looking at your screen shot here, is your external drive you have connected to this PCI USB 3.0 Card compatible with USB 3.0? If the drive is USB 2.0 compliment then it wont matter what USB port you have, it will always run at USB 2.0.
Just thought it was worth asking

also the pci usb card says it can be used with any external hard drive..
(is that what you are asking?)
(it is connected to the pci card)

Hello,

No, Is the USB external drive a USB 3.0 device?
If it's not then it will only run at whatever the device is.

For example, you plug a USB 2.0 device into a USB 3.0 port, it will only run at USB 2.0 speed.
