My friend at work has the galaxy s3  hes CONSTANTLY playing games (graphics intensive ones ) and watching movies on it all day at work  he also talks on it throughout the day  i asked to see his phone atthe end of our shift the other day and while mine was almost dead, he still had more than half of his battery life.  Granted that phone is ginormous so im assuming i has a much bigger battery, but thats a 4G phone too.  Also l i did was send a fee texts and look up sports scores throughout the day, nothing even close to what he was doing.

Also had a phenominal experience at the Apple Store / Genius Bar appointment.  Went to inquire about 48 hour monitoring and after they ran diagostics it was determined right away that I should get a replacement phone.  New phone is working MUCH better than previous.

Congrats Apple on continued customer satisfacation success!

It appears to be a pretty common problem, but at least you all have your phones. I pre-ordered as soon as possible and I still don't know when I will get my phone. It seems they still have some on hand as they appear to be giving them out to people with issues... I hope they have it cleared up before it arrives.

Here' the usage data of my new phone.  Much, much better than the first one.

62% left since last full charge

    Usage. 2 hours, 3 minutes

    Standby. 23 hours, 2 minutes.

Performing as well as my iphone4.

I took mine into an Apple Store Genius today as I had tried everything.  He acknowledged the pre-testing I had done and offered to do a DFU RESET, which can only be done by them in the store (and complete SW/FIRMWARE redownload and install).  We then experimented with this "new SW" iPhone for about 10 minutes.  I was browsing, email, Maps and lost about ~5% in 11 minutes.  We then also tried doing nothing and left the phone alone and I lost about 1% on "standby" over about 15 minutes (which is still no good as that equals about 1500 minutes of standby for a full charge, which is just over 1 day).

Due to this, he gave me a brand-new phone.  Said it should be better, but he has also heard a new SW patch (6.1) rolling out fairly soon to fix some of the overarching issues, kind of like what happened to the 4S with iOS5.  So if you are getting frustrated, go see your local Apple Store and be polite and nice and work through it with them.

I did this at the EATON CENTRE store in TORONTO, CANADA.

    Hope that helps!

i charged, and had battery doctor running in the background, on my new iphone 5. after it reached 100% and BD said it was good time to unplug, i did so. i went to sleep with it in airplane mode and locked, and i woke up 8 hours later to find it at 60% -- shocked! there's obviously some problem, because my 3g, 3gs, and 4s never had this bad battery performance.

My iphone 5 keeps shutting off when it gets to around 7% every time. It shuts off before even hitting 1%.

    Battery at 1%:

    Usage 6 hours 11 minutes

    Standby 2 days 18 hours

Not trying to rub it in, and I am new to the iphone, but isn't this a pretty good battery result?

I only have to charge mine every 2 days and yes I use it a lot. So don't give up - there has to be a tweek or something they can do, mine is just the time doesn't stay right I wonder which is more annoying. Battery life o r not knowing the time and not getting alarms when you should. *sigh* Apple really has some work to do.

The battery of my iPhone 5 seems horrendous. After having my iPhone 4 for over two years I was excited for a marked improvement for the iPhone 5 - however, I have been charging my phone nearly twice a day with the same use as my iPhone 4, and I never had to do that previously. My boyfriend has an iPhone 4 and we took a weekend trip and used our phones in nearly an identical matter (with similiar settings because I adjust his settings) his phone the next day was at 52% while mine was at 65% with a full charge inbetween...

Something weird is going on... My battery life seems to be improving with use. Was kinda lousy at the beginning - now seems better than my 4 under regular usage and only loses a couple of % overnight instead of 10% or so previously.

I have noticed that my battery drains much quicker than my iPhone 4.  I did read somewhere that if you don't have full reception bars that your phone has to work "harder" or something like that.  It was a lame answer.  If the iPhone 4 can hold a charge for almost 2 days after 2 years of use....then my iPhone 5 should be able to as well.

Found the main culprit causing my battery drain the other day... Apples Podcasts App.  Gave up trying to use it due to two bugs which are well documented in the forums and after removing the app, battery life is now better than it was on the 4s (I have the iphone 5).  With the podcasts app installed from an overnight full charge my battery at 5pm would be 10-20% now with the app completely uninstalled same phone use my battery is 50%+ at the same time of day.  Worth giving it a go if you have the podcasts app... hope this helps!

I don't know if this problem is related, but my iPod touch was also draining the battery quickly, sometimes in less than an hour, and getting quite hot after the iOS 6 upgrade.

The problem was a continous process running in the background trying to make sense of my overly bloated Safari bookmarks.  The iPod simply could not deal with bookmark sync via the cloud.   I nuked about 90% of them and the problem just went away.

Look at one of the system monitor programs that plots CPU utilization.  Mine was initially over 50% all of the time and then dropped to spiking to only 50% every third tick.  This went on forever.

After nuking the bookmarks, the idle CPU usage is about 5%
