Are you holding down the 'C' key when the iBook boots with the disk in the drive?
Does your iBook DVD drive work (Have you played back DVD's before on it)

Which type of disk is it?
If it's black with the 'X' on it then it's a retail copy. If it's gray then it's a gray system disk.

It could be a faulty disk, has this disk been used before on any other Mac? To verify if the disk is fine
