On my 3rd Iphone 5.  What a giant POS!  WIFI drops and dies within 30 seconds.  Have to re-enter the password every **** time.  I hate this thing!

You should check out my previous post. I think it might be related to the app: https://discussions.apple.com/message/19810056#19810056

I think there are probably several different problems iPhone 5 users are experiencing.  I am using a DLink WAP with WPA2 and AES ok.  Sometimes, after screen unlock the iPhone 5 doesn't show that it is connected via WiFi, but it is.  Also the Speedtest.net app often shows really slow download speeds, whereas Speedtest X HD slows blindingly fast download speeds.  Judging from how fast Safari works on my phone, I think Speedtest X HD is more accurate.  The new iPhone is beautiful, lightweight, and really fast.  I hope people who are having problems can get them resolved. You'll love the phone once it's working correctly.

I got the iPhone 5 the weekend it was released and I have blown through half of my alotted data within the first week of my billing period. I thought that I was connected to wifi pretty much the entire time. Aparently that is not the case. I cannot hold a wifi connection. The wifi connection is dropped when I lock the phone and comes back (with a delay) when I unlock it. The wifi is also consistently dropped in favor of my AT&T data network as I am using the internet. This is so frustrating. I have never had to worry about going over my allowed data until I got this phone. Please release a fix. I can't afford more data...

I'm on my 2nd phone with the wifi problem... and my 2nd router.  Here's what I've learned.

1st.   Both phones suffered from the Verizon bug that looked like wifi but wasn't.  Their fix seems to have taken care of the problem, but I'm not 100% yet.  The replacment phone has used a LOT of data, but it could be just that I've downloaded a lot from Match.

2nd.  Deleting the cookies and history DID restore functionality.  Not 100% sure why, but I read a discussion that suggested it as a fix and low and behold it worked.

During all this I had my cable provider swap modems.  Both had WPA2 with AES enabled.  Currently the phone is downloading at 30mb/s.   Only time will tell, but I'm happier today than I have been since the phone arrived.   I was a 3am order....

apparently apple is aware of it. I went to Genius Bar today and explained my problem and demonstrated my issues with screen shots. I advised them I was standing within 12 feet of my router and showed them different screen shots of my wifi actin up. Sure enough while explaining everything inside the apple store my wifi signal was bouncing from 3 lines to a dot back and forth. The rep observed this and stated he would be replacing it.

The rep went to the back and shortly after came back stating that the engineers did not need my iphone to research further and that try had plenty of phones already with the same issues and they were still trying to find a solution. Then the bad news....  I'm sorry but we are out of tr 64gig model of AT&T and it will take 3 to 5 days to get some in and wen we do we will have one on hold for you.

I'm an hour away... $20 in fuel each visit and this is visit #2.

At least they acknowledge the problem, but worried that they don't have a fix yet.

Sweetness. I discovered an almost perfect fix for my iPhone 5 WiFi issue. The 5 would not remember the WEP password. I had to re-enter it every time. After the fix it always remembers the password -- except after a reboot.

Here's the fix: Settings->Wi-Fi->Choose a Network...->Other (yes, deliberately ignore the shown SSID)->Name (enter your SSID)->Security->(enter your security type)->Other Network (to return to previous screen)->Password (enter your password)->Join.

Voila. My 5 now remembers the password every time.

So my Iphone5 would be connected to the wifi but would be slow and choppy. Checked multiple routers and still slow. I just did a soft reset (hold home and power button) and BOOM fast as ever.

I got my iPhone replaced today @ apple store. If you can connect to WPA but can't use it, go and get the replacement. Normally phone works on open wifi but secured fails to work properly.

My original order was with AT&T.

Ok, I also have the same exact WEP issue.  I'm trying your fix now.  So far so good.  I'll ck back in an hour.  If we make it through an hour you are a STUD!

Curious if the "Other" workaround is specific to WEP only, passwords issues in general, or fixes other reported WiFi issues? Feedback?

Try going to Settings>General>Reset and choose reset all settings or reset all network settings. Choose one or both. Thanks, hope this might help!

Apple Acknowledges WiFi Problems on the iPhone 5

Apple’s support representatives today acknowledged difficulties some iPhone 5 early adopters are having connecting to WiFi access points.

The issues involve weak signal strength, no connections at all, as well as problems staying connected to access points that are secured by WPA or WPA2 encryption.

CTTechJunkie has confirmed the WPA/WPA2 issue with our iPhone 5. The phone will connect and operate for brief periods of time before the connection freezes up and becomes unusable. Connecting to an unencrypted access point or one protected with the less secure WEP standard does not result in the same issue.

Users on Apple’s support forums report that Apple stores were handing replacement phones to users impacted by the issue, but it now appears that Apple will be issuing a software fix according to a support representative we spoke with today. The representative said the problem is now a “known issue” and engineers are taking steps to address it.

No word was given on when an update will be available.

My initial sarcastic coment is, "if it is a known issue then why did you [Apple] roll with it?"

But hopefully there will be a solution soon.
