No response men's they no there is an issue but haven't solved the problem yet.

Surprisingly it men's progress is slowly being made.

I don't recall them solving the map problem either; yet they responded by admitting and apologising for it.

Are you trying to convince me that a multi-billion dollar company like Apple spent >1 year developing a product without testing its battery life?

They either cut corners on the quality of the batteries or decided to launch despite a potential bug draining the battery - be it hardware (chip) or firmware/software (iOS6).

They didn't solve maps but they did acknowledge it.

You can only learn so much from beta testing. And how many people were testing iphone 5 with iOS 6? Could have only been 100 compared to 6 million or more

My girlfriends iphone 4 (13 months old) was at 1 hour 20 minutes usage 12 hours stand by and 70% on iOS 6, so it definitely seems software related.

Both of us have pretty much everything turned off like push notifications, fetch data and location services

    Quick update:

    9% remaining

4hrs 46 usage (browsing, etc - part 3G, part wifi)

    1 day 3 hours standby

iCloud notes and reminders have been on most of the time (off right now)

Location services were on most of the time (off now)

Mail and iCloud have been set to manual

I did Dfu an restore from backup

When browsing on 3G (I have no LTE), the battery depletes noticeably - I watch it drop. When browsing on wifi, it hardly depletes at all. I have very poor 3G reception here and the network does not support 2G.

How does that seem to you?

Also, for the sake of knowing the alternatives, I bought an S3 as well :) here are my thoughts after a day or so:

    What's better on the s3

    * I really like the widgets. Calendar and mail mostly. Makes iOS feel like a lot more work - eg: to discover if I have appointments this week is a task on the iPhone, whereas its in my face on the S3. Really handy! I actually avoided missing a meeting because the info was right in front of me.

    * I love the greater control that apps have. I downloaded an app called JuiceDefender and its ace. It automatically disables data when in standby, and reconnects to get mails etc every 15-30 mins. The battery life on s3 def feels better than iPhone. You only get these added features on a jail broken iPhone.

    * screen size is great. I could get used to that

    * I feel free from the annoying chains of apple - I am free to integrate whatever services work beat for me. I am no longer dependent on just Apple releasing features; I can benefit from more agile developers.

    What's better on iPhone

    * it won't break: with this bumper on, this phone is pretty tough. S3 is already a bit large without a bumper and would def break if I dropped. Check out the drop tests on YouTube. iPhone is very tough (even without a bumper) & S3 isn't.

    * iPhone hardware feels quality. S3 feels cheaper. But, that doesn't bother me beyond the risk of breaking the s3.

    * s3 has a crazy samsung-customised android that means jelly bean still isn't on it. That delay is insane. Much better to buy a google phone.

    * in a day, I already noticed bugs in android. Chrome crashes when sending a URL via email. The device hangs when waking from sleep for up to 8 seconds! Pretty annoying (I guess fixable)

    * BIGGEST ISSUE FOR ME: android (4.0.4 at least) does not support syncing with CalDav and CardDav servers! Crazy. There are apps, but I can't get them to work either.

The last point is a show stopper for me. On top of that, I really don't desire a "flavoured" OS. The only droid worth getting seema to be a Nexus. Otherwise we wait 6 months for the updated OS's, which simply *****.

PS. In my heart, I really want to move to droid. I have apple everything and really fancy a change. Not sure I will though unless JellyBean supports CalDav and CardDav and a new decent Nexus comes out. Replaceable battery is a must too, based on the chaos that we've experiences here...

Nobody is going to like this, but here goes..........

Set the phone up as you want to use it and leave the configuration alone for a few days.   Charge it and use it as normal, but stop diddling with the settings, doing restores and driving yourselves nuts.

I got my 64gb i5 on release day.   Did a restore from my 4s backup via iTunes on my MacBook Pro.   Started out with all the same problems others have been reporting.   Had the wifi glitch issue, battery life was terrible, blah, blah, blah.....

Well, I did a couple of network resets, trying to clear the wifi issue, but then read it was an APPLE authentication problem.   So I just left the phone alone and used it.   On the Saturday, I charged it twice and was concerened.   By Sunday, I could see a definite improvement.   Now, sitting here on October 9th, I can easily say that my i5 battery performs much better than my 4s ever did.   I easily get through the day, with moderate usage, with most all features on.   I leave BT on because I use it in the car.   In the office here, I'm on wifi and for the hour I'm out to lunch the area has decent LTE.   At home, I'm on my home wifi inside and on 3G when out and about.   About 1/2 of my 1 hour commute is LTE and the other 3G, all solid signals along the interstates up here in the Boston area.   I have location services on, Exchange email set to PUSH, Yahoo Mail set to PUSH and GMAIL set to Fetch-15min.   Notifications are ON for many apps.   iCloud on.   Music Match on.   Sync by wifi on.   Siri on but lift to activate is off.

What I have noticed since those first couple of days, is that the USAGE numbers appear to be much more realistic.   I have become a FIRM believer that when you first set up your phone, especially if you have iCloud and/or sync by wifi on, your phone does a LOT of background work, syncing and transferring configuration data, backups and syncing.   I might even consider the fact that it's doing some internal business even with these features not activated?   It just appears to me that stuff is happening for some time, then settles out and things work nicely.

LASTLY, to further reinforce my belief, I did the exact same thing with a white 64gb i5 for my wife and found the exact same results.   So......   Even though this flies in the face of the many tinkerers in here, I suggest the Ron Popiel method as a trial ----  "Set it and FORGET it!"

What I tried last night didn't work.... My new iphone is being shipped from China so i'm praying its fresh and whatever problems may have existed in previous phones ...will be fixed... LOL I mean wishful thinking right??

I can't say I agree with you, while it can appear corrected at time.. i have got up to 6 hours 40 minutes of usage at my best..

the phone also gets into a random state still where it gets warm and burns battery at a rate of 1% every2-3 minutes still.. only solution is to reboot the device, then it returns to normal..

there is definitely a software bug.

Not to argue, but I'm sitting here at 3 hours of standby, with little usage (16min), but still at 100%........    That's with everything on as noted above, in my office, connected to wifi.   Just convinces me more that my thinking just might be valid.

I also notice "good times" and "not so good time" with mine. Yesterday, it dropped 18% between 9am and 6pm, and then dropped another 20% between 6pm and 8pm, with only a little extra use. That said, during 6 and 8, the reception did drop, so it could have been the 3G chip trying to connect.

I am not personally sure if it's much worse then my previous 4S, as that wasn't great either. But, i can't really say. Plus, i've had to disable stuff on the 5 that was never disabled on the 4S. Anyway, whatever Just a phone and all that.

Not sure if i'm keeping mine or not.

PS. My final results b4 the battery packed in were:

    5h 25 use (light use)

    1 day 3 hours standby)

So, kind of acceptable and would get me through the day. I would appreciate a few jalbreak tools to better control 3G chip, as i don't need it always so active - i'm suprised Apple haven't done a better job of handling the processor when the phone's idle.

I do think that connecting to wifi seriously saves battery life. the 3g / lte chip / software seems to go a little mad and chew through a lot of battery
