Has anyone even tried calling Apple Support on this? I apologize for not reading this entire lengthy thread.

A few things come to my mind as being the culprit

    - Wrong wall plug being used. The iPad and iPhone wall plugs supply different voltages so do not get them confused.

    - Weak, dying battery. Batteries do not last forever. If you have Apple care you are covered for two years. If not, only one. I believe most batteries last between one and two years especially laptop batteries. Only way to fix that is to send it to Apple.

    - Broken connector or cord

    - Water damage

    - And the one everyone loves, an unstable jailbreak tweak

If none of the above, I recommend calling Apple support and seeing if they can recommend a fix or repair. If there was water damage, I don't believe that will be covered and once they open it, they will know.

And to everyone that believes it is IOS 6, have you tried a restore without installing from backup? I have recently learned that sometimes backup files have corrupt data that can cause issues. After making sure your precious photos and other memories are safely stored on your PC, do a restore and set up as a new phone and see if the problem goes away. If it does, then start resyncing your data from your PC storage files.

Best of luck! I know it can be frustrating.

Not true. The iPad and iPhone chargers have the same voltage output (5 V). The iPad charger can supply more current, but that doesn' matter as the iPhone only takes what it needs. Apple says you can use an iPad charger with your iPhone.

Everything else you say is correct.

Hi matrixxzero, Most of the people on this thread have tried all and many more of the possibilities you have suggested, that's what's made this thread as long as it is. There have been 174717 views of this thread which suggests the problem is a lot more prevalent than one would imagine. It also suggests that Apple either:

    1) Don't look at these threads at all

    2) Don't give a ****

    or

    3) Know what's causing the problem and just don't want to comment.

I not only speak for myself, but most people contributing to this thread and who continues to have this problem have tired all of these:

    a) Using only genuine connectors

    b) Replacement batteries

    c) Replacing the dock connector (same message)

    d) Using an App called Battery Doctor

    e) Re-installing the iOS

    f) Doing a complete DFU - ie: deleting the all software and firmware (interstingly we now know the message is stored in the firmware because the message popped up when ONLY the firmware was running my iPhone).

    g) Taking it to the Apple genius only to be told there's nothing wrong it and that they have never had anyone come into the shop with this problem before.

    f) Performing ridiculous key press combinations that have been suggested

    h) Checking to make sure cord connector isn't damaged

    and

    j) Buying a new genuine Apple cord connector

Just for the record, mine started doing  showing the message IMMEDIATELY after upgrading to iOS5

Now tell me it's not a software issue.

Hello i was one of the FIRST people many many moons ago to start this thread. I suggested apple knew what the problem was and was very much aware of it. I also stated that perhaps it was a way to get back (by some unknown) at those who jailbreak. It was a VERY bad thing to suggest from some of the comments i recieved. So now im going to give you a HYPOTHEGAL idea . Isnt it peculiar that NOONE is complaining about this problem thats running IOS 6 ( or no one's mentioned it here) AND there isnt a jailbreak for that IOS. No competing place to buy apps from. Imagine that. Also remember thats hypo question.

Apparently you never read MY post. My issue never started UNTIL i downloaded IOS6. My phone has NEVER been jail broke, If i wanted a phone to jailbreak I'd buy the S3 which has a lot more capability then any iphone.

Katskan your right i failed to read your comment. Im sorry i get messages every day were someone has left another comment on this discussion. I just cant believe its still going and no one seems closer to getting a real solution to this problem, just temporary fixes. Maybe one day soon but dont hold your breath.

I have the same problem with 3GS.

It happened when I bought an after market wall plug charger and charge it.

The time when I charge it, I could feel the whole phone get energized and some minor electricity leak shocks from the phone.

Just ignored it and go to take my bath.

Then when I got out and tried to on the phone, it was totally dead. Did all the silly stuffs found on forums, but still DEAD.

Get the battery changed, and finally the phone on back(think is due to "hard reset" by pulling out battery), Happy it on back from DEAD, but it greeted me with this Cant charge Message.

    Updated IOS, no avail.

Found this thread and it seems still not solved.

Hardware or software, I guess when you see the message, it is almost Certified already.... since Apple is not taking any heeds on this even the forum already progressed for more than a year.

Guess I have to move on and get a new phone.....

Brand spanking new iPhone 5 here, iOS 6. I've had the phone less than 24 hours, and I'm getting this error. I'm using the wall charger that came with the phone. Neither that nor charging via USB and my laptop works.

This is after switching over to an iPhone because I assumed I would have a more robust user experience than with my previous Android phone. Not the best first impression for a new Apple user.

It sounds like you got a defective phone or cable. That's what warranties are for.

warranties eventually run out dear heart......It was actually a defective port. It was a $35 fix....apple care would've cost me almost $140 for 2 yrs....

Its a port.. its a dirty connector.. NO!  Its Apple Inc!.... I found an old iphone 3g in a box.. with the original IOS... plugged it in.. no message.. updated it to IOS 6.0... Charging not supported............. Thank you IOS 6.0 for forcing me to buy my Droid.. It was the best move I ever made.  My S2 wasn't perfect.. They nerfed an upgrade which caused me to lose the ability to mount as a hard drive.. but they replaced it with a S3.  Thanks to the companies that care..

Well, yes, but I was responding to someone with a NEW iPhone 5, which still is in warranty.

I'm sure you made the right choice; after all, Samsung has never had a hardware or software failure of any product that they sell.

Hmm... for someone who likes to accuse people of not reading posts, I think you are guilty of it.. I clearly stated I had an issue with my S2.. and samsung replaced it immediately..(with a better device)  because they ADMIT they screwed something up. Samsung-3 devices 1 failure. Apple-4 devices 4 failures.  I think I made the right choice too.

Agreed. Compared with M*, they r better in this.they admit their bugs and keep on releasing patches with description..though it is lame but they listen n there for u. On opposite, only heard the opponent boast theirs is great in security n stability....only release upgrade, but seldom patches...yet this bug seems like would b with us for aeon...
