Sound stuttering after Mountain Lion install

    Hi Victor.

     

    Have sent feedback but not called yet. If this Mac was for audio work, I would call ASAP, but it's not, although it is for work and I do play music in iTunes.

     

    Judging by this thread, it appears to be an issue with Mountain Lion that affects various Macs. My last Mac ran Lion and did not have this audio issue.

     

    I spent several days transitioning from my old Mac and use this one all day, every day, so can't afford any more downtime.

     

    I have faith in Apple to sort this out and will call them about it.

     

    Everyone else with this issue should call them too.

    chalk me up as another victim of this insanely annoying bug.. late 2009 macbook pro 13".. the soundglitch started just a week ago.

    ive been screeching about this on other threads.im on an imac 27 have the new update of ML installed and its still doing the audio glitching. I switch to lion everytime i want to work on music, my job. I had to learn how to do the internet install of lion and all that. without that option, id be stuck. I thought this recent update 10.8.2 might have the fix. unbelievably it doesnt. Theres a lot of people experiencing this issue. Mac used to work for the creative proffessional. It kinda doesnt feel like that now. This is one very exepnsive computer and i cant listen to anything on it. Unless i go back in mac time to Lion which...worked.

    People have been writing about this since ML was first released, Its a while now. Logic faulters, anything i listen to off desktop, or through browser or itunes. Imagaine that, even itunes is audio glitchy. Go to lion, all is smooth.

    Im just using core audio nothing wrong with my leads.Same happens with internal speakers.

    While I was downgrading from ML to Lion and doing a standard backup of selected files, I noticed that my Mac Book Pro was lagging badly. A check on Activity Monitor showed that Finder was at almost 110% CPU usage which struck me as strange considering all I was doing was just a normal copy paste into the attached hard drive. There seems to be quite a few issues running ML on older machines.

     

    But anyways am back to Lion and things seem to be fine.

    please note: this is a system wide issue, so I don't think reinstalling of itunes would help.

    Stuttering occurs in every program!

     

     

    btw…I sent "stuttering-log-files" to the Senior Advisor of Apple which gave it to the engeneers, which should analyze it.

    I'll let you know when I got the results.

    Woodentopian, I'm doing pro audio as well, running Nuendo 5 and it's a disaster the same as all audio apps...stutters constantly.  Has nothing to do with using too much resources as well all know, even just a 4-track project stutters.

     

    Checked and the only disk I have is Snow Leopard, I jumped from SL right to ML, bad move.  So how the heck do I downgrade to Lion?  I could start all over with SL, but I don't see a way to upgrade to Lion which is what I would like to do. 

     

    The fact that Apple offers ML and not Lion, when ML is clearly screwed up is criminal. You can't force people onto a screwed up OS and then do nothing about the problem.  Well, they did but they are going to lose customers...

    So frustrating...

     

    I try to contact support online.  When it gets to the stage where you enter your phone number it won't take my number because "it's not a real number", because I'm mixing in Asia.  Then it says click on the Asian support, which changes the language into Korean which I can't read.  This is another issue, Apple doesn't understand international people.  The iTunes store is totally messed up, using internationally with a KR address and a US bank account, and in English just trips their brains out.  It's a very outdated way of looking at things.  If you are an American living or working abroad you know exactly what I'm talking about.

     

    Anyhow I work in audio, I paid for a working system, but my audio doesn't work.  And I can't even get thru their convoluted system to have a real person call me.

     

    Classic.

    @MoogNinja: If you're in the UK and you're struggling to work around this, and Apple don't step up to the plate, then I would be willing to burn you a copy of my Lion image. Let me know. Just watch: not a peep from Apple about their f**k up on this forum, but some shill will be along to complain about software theft

    I now have my iPod plugged into a set of speakers next to my iMac.  I have downloaded an iPhone app to listen to the radio that I would have listed to on my iMac.  Unfortunately I still need my iMac to process my files on Photoshop...and simply have no option but to put up with the constant mouse lags, a 30 second freeze up every 45 minutes or so and usually one shutdown every night.

     

    From a public relations point of view, I am really surprised that a rep hasn't appeared on this thread to speak to us.  Surely, providing the logging app that I was sent from the support guy would allow the hundreds of people visiting this thread to generate logs to send to them.  The more they know what our systems are doing, the better opportunity they have to diagnose the problem...or is that really too sensible?

    I downloaded ET on my iMac and now I can't even get iTunes to work correctly.  I'm about to revert back to Lion and start selling off my Apple stock and hardware.  This company is incredible in how arrogant they are and the unwillingness to acknowledge the problem publicly.  I understand they state they are working on this, but how long does this take?  3 months in on this awful piece of bloatware they call OSX and still not a fix yet?

    Campbell, thank you, even though what they are doing ought to be illegal I need to get a legit copy since I use it for my business.

     

    Selling the stock ain't a bad idea, that's the only language they hear.  I bought the stock at $85 when they had a bright future and have been a crazy apple fan (because their stuff worked, no other reason).  But little things like this aren't isolated incidents, it shows a change in the way they do things, and as an investor important to take into account.  It wouldn't surprise me at all if in five years they had completely destroyed the trust Jobs built and the stock price was hosed.  Good short.

     

    People always ask why are apple fans so crazy loyal.  Well it's because their stuff works, period.  Once the stuff no workie, no fans, that simple. 

     

    How can they not do a proper test with real people in the field, testing on real machines?  I noticed this bug within 1 minute of running the new system.  They either 1) knew about it and didn't care or 2) are incompetent and didn't know about it.

    Guys try the new 10.8.2 "supplemental update".

     

    Not trying to get your hopes up, just saying that after that update I haven't had any glitches in 30 minutes.  It could be cause of the restart and glitches will begin again, but trying to be positive. 

     

    The update does not list this as something that was fixed, but then if they fixed it they probably wouldn't admit it ever happened in the first place.  Lawyers.

     

    Anyhow, fingers crossed.

    You're echoing the views of so many people. I've spent thousands of pounds buying Apple products because their products work...simple as that. It never even crossed my mind that paying £13.99 would render my computer a useless bag of cack that crashes and lags every night.

     

    My main issue is that I cannot simply return the operating system back to Lion, there have been some very helpful people on here who have suggested what I should do, but I don't feel comfortable messing around with areas that I'm not familiar with. I shouldn't need to do that and I certainly shouldn't need to pack my computer up and take it to an Apple store to be fixed.  I certainly shouldn't need to be listening to my music catalogue on an iPod sat next to my computer.

     

    PS, the supplemental fix didn't resolve the lagging and crashing for me :o(

    heya moogNinja,

    i got my imac with lion installed. so when mountain lion came i installed that over lion. when my audio glitching made it impossible to work i found out you can (as I didnt get a lion disk with computer) do an internet restore back to factory setting. ie , with lion as OS.

    if you got your machine with lion installed you should be able to do it too.

     

    so you do a internet recovery

     

    start with disk utility and make a partition for lion. maybe call it ..Lion.  say 50 or so space. (just in case you end up using lion for a while..and you need to move apps or whatever there too.)

     

    Then start your computer holding down command r .

     

    follow the steps, tell it to put lion in..lion partition. (takes nearly 2 hours in total by the way the whole thing) I didnt back anything up and all was fine, lotsa space on my disk, i keep everything else in external hardisks._

     

    so after all that time wasting! you restart computer holding alt. (option) alt on my keyboard. choose lion as start up;

     

    bingo life is back to normal everything works . just stupid to have to switch about. untill they fix mountain lion i will be working in yep , lion. which works gr8.

     

    10.8.2 did for me seem fixed for about half a day. then i was listening to something i noticed a bit of a squelch on a bass drum. then the glitching quickly began to return to super annoying again.

     

    i would have thought the broken audio would have been fixed in the first ML update because it is a completely obvious and my computer is not even a year old so i think it qualifies as new right?

    please mac people looking for data on what people are noticing is not working properly..fix it! ty
