Unexpected high data usage on the iPhone

    How is that being fair?! Really odd that you would say that, as if it's my responsibility for the cost I incurred by updating to a buggy software.

     

    Actually, you're not being fair at all.

     

    My iphone froze up and was unresponsive to anything I tried. When I attempted to restore it in iTunes, I was not given a choice: iTunes gave me  only the options of updating to iOS6 or 'canceling' the restore. I had no other choice if I wanted to use my phone. Three times I started the restore process, and I would choose 'cancel' when given the option to update to iOS6, but then the entire restore proces would end.

     

    If iOS6 is buggy, that's not my fault or responsibility. I upgraded with the hope and expectation that the news OS wouldn't eat up my data plan. You should think clearly before you reply in ignorance.

    Well, you didn't provide any background information to contextualize your upgrade. Without that information, I could only have assumed that the upgrade took place under normal conditions (e.g., not during some sort of malfunction).

     

    Nowhere in my post do I make any attempt to shift the blame or place responsibility onto you. In fact, my post does not address (or even make mention of) any of the following issues:

    - Your expectations regarding your device's performance

    - Apple's culpability in any matter at all, ever

    - Your culpability in any matter at all, ever

    - Your financial losses and who is responsible for them

     

    I made no statement regarding repsonsiblity whatsoever.

    I have an IPHONE 4S installed new OS 6

    NOW my data is flying out the door

    called both VERIZON N APPLE i am told that carrier update to VERIZON 13.1 will fix issue

    I followed instructions to install the new carrier update but the pop up will not appear and I am told by both companies to wait...

    it will come via a push out???

    how long....?

    a day....a week...??

    what the heck...???

    in the meantime who pays for overage?

    what is the ETA for this push out...??

    both companies can not say....!????

     

    I have not changed how I use my phone at all...but my data is getting eaten up...

     

    n NO KNOWN ETA on how to get update for this Carrier update is NOT OK...

    this is poor customer service from both companies...

     

    if you can not deliver fix...then folks should be able to go back to former OS system...

    in speaking with both companies it seems that their reps themselves are confused about issues n fixes..

    so how do they feel this leaves their customers feel????

     

    if anyone has any suggestions or fixes...please share..

    Hello,

     

    I am having the same problem. I doubt it's a carrier problem, as Iive in lebanon and am having the same problem.

     

    I nkticed my data consumption skyrocketed when updated my iphone fo ios6. I am chrrentky gurning off my cellular data because I reached my limit of 500mb in 15 days when i usually consume less than 100. Please if angone has a solution or knows from where is the issue, share It!

    Hello,

     

    I am also having the same problem. I am on Vodafone and living in UK. As soon as I upgraded to iOS6 my data consumption skyrocketed. Normally 100-200 MB in a month  but suddenly 400 MB in 10 days!! Am currently off the 3G only using wireless/WiFi as my data limit is 500 MB.

     

    Apple needs to act quickly and not only in USA with Verizon.

    Same here in Germany. Normally i have 300MB the whole month, since IOS6 (iPhone4) 300 MB in 1 day. For example  iTunes Match seem to use 3G in the background even at home, when WiFi is on...

    There was a switch "WiFi plus Cellular" in the beta of IOS 6. It seems, that Apple removed the switch, but left the function as always on by accident....

    I'm  having the same high data usuage problem on my son's iPhone 4 that has iOS6 on it and AT&T is the carrier.  He only has a 200 mb plan, which has never been a problem in the past.  Last month, after upgrading to iOS6, his usage skyrocketed and got his with overage charges.  Looking at the details of the data usage, it shows large amounts of data being sent late at night that eventually add up and put him over the limit.  In fact, there is one day it sent out over 100 mb in one shot.  Hope Apple fixes this soon.

    Have you had any help from Apple or AT&T? I have spent so many hours and I still don't have a for sure fix. I'm on my 3rd month of this. This month has been the worst. I have turned off my cellular data but it's still going around it. I rarely use data that isn't via wifi. I'm so tired of this.

    Did you contact Apple?  Did they give you any resolution?  I have a iPhone 3G and it TOO has started this data glut- and every morning between 12:30am to 1am is when this mysterious data push happens.  I'm seriously looking at changing to another brand of phone if this crap continues!  I agree- Apple lets you go back on the MACs if you dont like the OS- but not on the phones?  I'd really like to just go back raterh than worry about data usage and paying $$ - especially if even turning off cellular- and 3G doesnt stop it.  Has ANYONE seen ANYTHING from CNET or anyone else about this issue??

    Did you alll checkout that  video about iCloud chewing up the data. Mine was doing that. As soon as I deleted iCloud it stopped the data leak. I will backup the old fashioned way in iTunes. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4392397?start=0&tstart=0

    I'll deffinately shut off the iCloud for cellular backups and see if that helps- but we shouldnt have to shut it off if it can work over WiFi.  so i'll see if usgae goes back to pre-IOS6 numbers.  I "expect" usgae if i tellit to use Cellular- but wasnt expecting these pushes at 1am every day- APPLE should have given better information on what the "cloud" does.  And in addition a friend of mine has iCloud shut OFF completely- so why on earth would her usage increase?  Again I think APPLE should be advising us of how we can minimize data usage - and still njoy all the cool features.

    It seems to help to turn off backup to icloud since the phone seems to go into a loop resulting in very high data usage of your cell or your wifi.  In my case, I'm in hot water with my cell carrier AND my home internet service provider because data is burning up in the middle of the night when the phone is trying to back up to icloud. Turning off back up to icloud should dramatically reduce your data usage... you'll just have to back up to iTunes via the cable.

    In Germany we have the same problems with the iphone 5 and ios 6 already. First of all with the Telekom. Customers of other carriers have less problems.

    In the past I used 200 MB per month. Now in 12 days more than 300. And 70% of a day I am Wifi logged in.

    So I have sent mails to the Telekom but they can't explain this phenomenon.

    I suspect there are conflicts between carrier bundles and ios 6.

    I have read that maybe FaceTime on cellular (and without doing FaceTime calls) could be a reason. So I deactivated now and observe the effect. And in Wifi I deactivate mobile data.

    At the moment it's very annoying.

    So I hope Apple will update iOS or the carrier bundles very fast so that everyone could use the phone normally.

    i am now suspect after updating to os6 on iphone 4 that the increase of sent data from my phone resembles the amount of data used while streaming video maybe our cameras and mics are being turned on and all our lives data is being stored for some purpose imagine what information they would get from us even just after a few weeks of mass video and audio collection !!!

    can we really put it past them to do this ??? in the name of money and trolling for new ideas to make $$$ these companies become desperate and will goto any lengths in my opinion......or its a disgruntled group of programmers having their fun !!!
