This problem does not go away, it clears up and then starts again I've noticed. The only way is for Apple to fix it with an update to iOS 6. My sound is off now, not even a keyboard click. No rings no message tones. It's happened 3 x today. Apple fix this please.

I too have the same problem, no sound majority of the time.  I have restored the phone and tried everything else, sometimes it works, sometimes not.  Now my battery is draining like crazy, and I can't hear anything.  Apple needs to fix this.

The same with me, but I looked at the right of my laptop screen and saw that the sound seems to be a problem with  the major updates when there is one.

Nevertheless that being said do I only have no problems with sound as such after the update to ios 6. Everything plays fine and volume is no problem either.

The only problem I have had since installing ios6 is that now no music is playing when someone calls and neither music when a new sms arrives as neither when new emails enter the phone.

All that happened when i tried out the new don´t disturb button in settings.

Before I did tried it out everything kept working fine, but because of my type of job I found this new feature very interesting as people could still make a call en sms and even when I don´t hear one coming in I could later on when possible still see if someone had called and call that person back. The same with the sms thus.

And it did its work sublissimo as I hoped for...

...but with one nasty problem, namely that once I returned the button to its off position so I could hear someone is calling or has send me an sms my Iphone 4S stays in don´t disturb modus operandi, or thus in its on position even when you visually see it standing in its off position.

With me this is the only issue sinde updating my phone. Everything else works super and had no problems whatsover... till I tried out that don´t disturb button and did put it on instead of keeping my fingers off it.

But who would have known what would happen afterwards...

And yes like with all of you guys, nothing seems to restore it to its previous glory just after the update, even after doing a full restore through iTunes and thus a reinstalling of ios 6 by its factory settings and afterwards all my apps again through the iCloud copy of it.

I have same problem: I noticed mine imediately after the upgrade.  Phone was in my hand and call was coming in just after the upgrade.  Vibrated only, no ring tone. Did not think anything of it untill I hit the speaker button and nothing, took off speaker and Icould listen out of head set only.  Shortly thereafter discovered all speaker output functions no longer work, music, Turn by Turn GPS, pad sounds, phone ringer etc. All other functions work fine except this. Took phone today to a very knowIedgable verzon phone consultant locally and confirmed all settings correct, no mechanical issues. Definitely a software problem. Phone is not quite a year old. The upgrade disabled all speaker audio output of the phone.

After upgrade to iOS 6 on iPhone 3 gs, there was no ring or vibration on the incoming calls. Outgoing calls no problem but no ringer sound on incoming but vibration worked after resetting it.  Speaker works with phone calls and music but sound on videos is absent on some apps.  No "click" sound when locking phone anymore and no more "alert" sounds.  Sending emails do not go "swoosh" anymore and only vibration when emails are downloaded--no sound. Messages are silent.

Hope there is a system fix soon as this phone is my primary business phone.

Me too.  Mine is fixed by resetting; at least that has worked the last few times.  I have had the no sound low sound and distorted sound. Can’t really get a handle what sequence of events cause the issue.  It’s some kind of software/iOS issue.  Likely will not get any help from Apple until next update.  I am also having WiFi performance issues that come and go, requiring resetting.

Talked to a neighbor and 2 folks at work who have similiar problem after the IOS 6 upgrade. All 3 have 4S phone like mine.  Does anyone know if the apple engineers monitor this site so they can build a fix that we can download.

    Thanks

I had this problem, immediately after upgrading to iOS 6 on my iPhone 4S  When it's docked I see the audio routing option for "iPhone" available and sound plays via the unmuted speaker like it should when undocked, and when I remove the phone from the dock it shows "Dock Connector".  Meaning the software in iOS6 has the designator/status for audio dock backwards.  I don't think I have a bad/dirty/faulty connector, the new bahvior started immediately after updating with no prior symptoms.  Headphones work as expected, so it's just the dock connector really.  I'm seeing number of posts and videos, people reporting the same issue as soon as they update to iOS 6.

If you don't have Airplay enabled (or more than one audio output option available), you won't see the an enumerated list with the audio output selector and just experience a "missing volume slider."   In this case the phone is in on "Dock" mode and will not present the slider (it's sending the audio to an external device), and becomes something of a mystery to the user given the lack of choice, and lack of information.  This is made even more confusing in all the above cases since some audio comes out the speaker, audio that is always supposed to route via the phone's speaker (e.g. adjusting the ringer) always plays just fine.

    This is a SOFTWARE bug.

Also, Apple should ALWAYS show the option for sending iPhone audio out via the phone's speaker,  since it's always present it's should always be an option!  In my case, the dock doesnt even feature audio anyway --it's just a charging station!  Having this option would have helped.

I see exactly what you mean. This would be a big help! Does anyone know if Apple has a fix yet?
