The Genius Bar at an Apple retail store has a Mac Pro and parts you can use to debug yours. An appointment at the genius Bar is free, in warranty or out.
Or you could consider buying an Apple 5770 and just replacing your display card. The 5770 works in all model Mac Pros and has drivers in 10.6.5 and later.
I'd like to, but we don't have Genius Bars in Holland I'm afraid. That would have made it a lot easier....
I just bought a cheap second hand GeForce 7300GT card from a 2,1 Mac Pro. Not very good, but at least I should be able to use the Pro again (I run my own business, and I really need my Mac for that..).
But unfortunately, same result with the new videocard.
Seems like there are two options left, since I saw this videocard run:
1: There is something wrong with my monitor, or the signal it receives
2: There is something significant structurally wrong...
There are other sites that deal with flashing which is popular and people have been buying 6870s, the ATI injector method. Not sure about Radeons, I keep up more with Nvidia and GTX cards which right now offer performance and support.
Hmm.. I thought about flashing a PC videocard for quite a while. Problem is: how do I get it flashed... Can't see anything obviously, so configuring and flashing is quite hard. And since all I do for my company is on this Pro, I'll have to get it going quickly. So I'm going for the 5770 from Apple itself. Good quick card, warranty etc. And I should be able to return it if it doesn't work, because something else is broken....
Thanks all for your assistance
There are forums with tools and FAQ and instructions for flashing different cards.Graphic Cards OS X
Then the company should buy the video card from Apple and have the support.
The best in 3rd party is MacVidCards, hangs around MacRumors and has threads there.
