Further, is the viewing angle of everyone's Samsung this crappy?

My screen is very yellow in the middle, but normal up top. But that changes when I tilt the screen back/ it becomes yellow up top when I do this.

Yep. The Samsung's viewing angle appears to be noticeably less than the LG, but it doesn't bother me too much because I'm the only person using it. The LG's image retention was way more of a problem in my book. I haven't noticed any of the color issues you're describing though.

When you say viewing angle is worse, what exactly is 'worse?'

I'm having bad uniformity, as well as yellow in the middle, normal up top, but tilting the screen back makes the top yellow as well. Viewing angle problem? Or problem with the screen?

    Hello everyone,

Got my laptop back today :-). And guess what? LSN!! I'm happy no more retention . But as many of you mention it ha yellow tint. But I am fine with it as it doesn't effect me in anyway. Wish you all good luck with yours as well. Bye :)

My Samsung display is flawless so far. I have a 2 year old Dell Studio with a LG 1080P and it was flawless untill I steped on it and ruined it. Thats how I ended up with this new Mac. The LG display that was in my Studio was almost as good as this one I am typing on.

My screen is a bit warmer and definitely looks more yellow when viewed at off angels (verticle and horizontal). Looking straight on it though, white looks like white (as close as possible without calibration, anyway).

My orginal post on page 313-

I have hit the the LSNxxxxxx lottery ! I ordered my standard build Macbook earlier today for in store pick up. Then I starting reading about the LG problems and started worrying. When I got to the Apple store I ask if I could open it and check to see what display it had. They were completely fine with it. The guy that was helping me has heard of the LG issue.  But me being a long time PC user I was unable to correctly enter the terminal command and he wasn't much help. So I left and figured I had 14 days to return it. But when I got to work and finally was able to enter the command correctly there was the beautiful LSNxxxxxx. This is my MAC and I hope it doesn't let me down. I have always bought Dell and almost bought the new XPS 15. Dell has aways been great for me.

Oh yeah, I remember reading that one. So, although you ended up confirming it later on, had you known how to use the terminal at the time, the "genius" would have let you check it beforehand? That's awesome! I wish they were all so helpful. Congrats on your Samsung display?

Wait until you calibrate it. Awesome!

I haven't noticed that it get's yellower off-angle, but it definitely seems to get dimmer.

    @srhwang

viewing angle for my Samsung is good - can't tell the diff compared to my 1st LG display.  Yellowish tint is bad, and is uniform throughout the screen.  Had to up the color to 8500 before hitting blue.

I already asked here once, but nobody really reacted. I ordered two rMBP and strangely - they have almost the same serial numbers and appleserialinfo indicated that there were built one after another (..68..69). Has anybody encountared such situation and do you think that there is any chance that they have different displays? Or they should both have lg or samsungs?

39(chipmunk) or 40 (appleserialinfo). I suspect both LG since its  the end of the week line (1260...).

My very first rMBP, was a (2.6/16/512) from week 37/38, it was a Samsung. Returned this machine due to body damage.

After, I had two custom rMBP (2.6/16/512) from week 39/40 (same as yours), both LG, and then two other custom rMBP(2.6/16/512) from week 40/41, they were both LG also.

However, went to an Apple Store yesterday to just exchange it for the (2.6/8/512) base model to see if I'll get a Samsung, and guess what, it is a Samsung, week 38/39

Now I am deciding if I should hang on the the 2.6/8/512 with a Samsung and keep playing the lottery for a customize 2.6/16/512 with Samsung

    Is yours customized?

Mine is stock 2.6/8/512. Should arrive tomorrow, probably with two LGs Do you remember maybe what build numbers were your two LGs from week 39/40? I'm trying to determine whether at the begining of that week (till 500 or so) it was more Samsung chances than with later ones(1000 and up)...

You should try to order one per week so you can get a good rotation of rMBP. Have you tried for in-store pick up? I think most of the ones in stock are still from week 38/39. I used up both my apple serial checks, i'll try and find access to another computer and let you know about the build numbers.
