I've seen many posts from people wanting to go back to iOS5 and read where a few claim to have done this but even those who claim to have done it won,t provide the method they used to those wishing to do so, They instead launch into a diatribe about how great it is and proceed to try and talk the individual out of proceeding. Some people just want to go back and dont want to be talked out if it, So why not let them play and decide for themselves? Instead of trying to convince them why they should change thier minds all the while ignoring the question, why not read the question for what it is  and provide an answer?

To those people i offer one possible solution... note that I've yet to "upgrade" but it did do a full restore of the iPad day before yesterday to try and remove the bloated OTHER files and it made me wonder if the same method might work to return to the previous version? Might it be possible to use time machine to regress your computer back to before the first backup following the upgrade and then do a complete restore? So long as you blow off everything from the iPad And not  from within iTunes in the computer the process should work, shouldn't it? If you start the process from within iTunes it will ask you if you're sure you want to reload and update but if you blow everything off from the iPad itself all you get is a reload from a restore. Might it just be that simple? If so let me know, if not then how about someone chiming in and enlightening everyone instead of trying to convince everyone how wrong they are. Thanks everyone.

I'm sorry, but Apple does not provide a downgrade path for iOS. Because downgrading is unsupported by Apple we cannot discuss it on these forums, but you can use Google to find information on how to install an older version of iOS on any iDevice.

Simply restoring will not restore iOS 5. It will restore iOS 6.

I'd say the increased risk of bricking your device is reason enough for them to change their minds.

The ever-so-popular download link that keeps getting removed by Apple (with good reason) has the following disclaimer:

Use the instructions above at your own risk. While the risk is relatively small, the author, nor [site name], will assume any liability for a bricked phone.

The moderators/host will remove posts that talk about how to downgrade the device because Apple does not support downgrading. There is a reason for that as well. Downgrading may totally brick your iPad if something goes wrong. Apple is certainly not going to condone or support that type of action.

You do whatever you think is best for yourself, but discussion of how to downgrade will not be tolerated on the discussion site by the moderators for the reasons that I explained above.

I think if it was as easy as that it would be discussed here since it would involve methods Apple includes as features in daily software use.  If you look at the items mentioned included when you do a backup with iTunes it does not mention the iOS system files, just a list of personal files.

iTunes: About iOS backups - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4946 - including a list of what is backed up.

Ok so my bad...  Now how to remove the post rather than cause panic among the moderators?

You haven't done anything wrong to cause any panic. You asked a couple of reasonable questions and you got a few reasonable responses. We all just explained why the downgrade is not supported.

No harm - no foul. IMO - you have nothing to worry about.

Only a moderator or host can remove a post.

No sweat. I've reported it. If they find it inappropriate they will remove the topic and send you an email.

no, there is another 52 page thread, that when I try to access by clicking the "view original post" link in my email, used to take me to the thread, but now returns "unauthorized"

    but, thanks

That means it's either been removed or has been locked.

FWIW: Discussion about or advice about downgrading iOS has been declared off limits by Apple as a topic of discussion on these forums.

No it has not been deleted, but some of the content that we discussed as not being tolerated, allowed or supported has been removed.

Probably a particular post was removed, hence your email link won't work, but if you plug in the thread title into a forum search it should turn up. Search bar is in the upper right of the page.
