Personally, I don't think good support should hinge on Logic's reduced price, Logic use to cost $999, then $499 after Apple purchased it, once they ditched Markus's baby it was reduced to $199. It is still advertised as a professional program, and Apple can certainly afford to support it like one.

The cheap price has nothing to do with support.. imho, it has everything to do with selling Apple computers to run Logic, I mean... that's obvious isn't it?

Noone would accept the continous workflow breaks.

...which is why it's not a good idea to to use a new OS (or a new Mac which requires a new OS) for pro work with any app before you know for sure that the setup works as expected.

In your situation (unless you have a new Mac which requires M-Lion), you're probably best off by installing Snow Leopard on an extrernal drive and boot from that drive when you work with Logic.

    That's the point!!

for a long time i thought Apple is creating professional software to make us buying Apple machines!

There was no 'real' copy protection on their soft-stuff, because an apple machine was the dongle.

but nowadays ... their main business proflie is producing lifestile stuff. who cares about professional software, a new macpro or any kind of roadmap regarding the professional users.

maybe there wiill be a new macpro or a logic x next year ... but the cycle is getting longer and longer and longer the last years ...

    qed.

You're absolutely right, although the Lag was recognized using Lion, which is not really a new OS. I have a backup of SL but recently installed Plugins I have used under ML have refused their service with this SL Backup boot device. I guess I have to install them again.

This is the first time I got weak on using a new OS release. The reasons for me to upgrade was the Apple statement that the iDevice synch should be perfect with this release and of course that I hoped that the Lag issue was solved in ML.

Logic is a tremendous tool but for now it does not serve my needs. I have to analyse the market for future projects.

Apple encourages you to be on the latest OS, if client calls support, the first thing they ask is if both application and OS are the most recent versions. Logic couldn't have been given a serious run through on ML or even Lion. If you're having problems with an Application, call support and tell them you're running Snow Leopard guess what support will tell you. It could also be beta testing is now limited to in house, which means most machines won't have any third party plugins and they're certainly not testing Logic on the wide variety of machines/firmware they're now trying to support.

I've switched back to SL and everything is fine. Since the UI Lag is related to the Operating System and not to Logic, we have to wait for a fix in ML.

i did the same about 2 days ago and yes that is the only working solution for now except you still get cpu spikes once in i while but i can live with it.

I was thinking of doing the same bit I'm not sure I can.

But I think I read somewhere that since my Mac Pro (5,1 - quad core - 3.2MHz - 32GB RAM) is brand new I can't install Snow Leopard on one of the internal hard drives and boot from there. Is this true? Bought it about a month ago.

    Thanks much

If you bought the mid 2012 model Mac Pro, you cannot install Snow Leopard.  Let's hope a fix comes soon.  Meanwhile, I guess I'll try the iLife thing.

I went back from Mountain Lion to Lion - and my rig is once again in a working state. No lag problems whatsoever so far after 3-4 days. MBP mid 2010.

It seems like the iLife '11 install helped me!

I haven't updated iLife since the install and I won't even since I don't wanna jeopardize this workaround!

    Install iLife '11 people!

Wait... what does iLife have to do with Logic?????

As Mike Connelly mentioned in a similar thread...

There are shared libraries both programs use. (not audio/loop libraries, programming libraries)

Which means they've narrowed the problem down, iLife 11 probably has older versions of the shared libraries.

I can report similar success with the 'ilife' update. Already had Garageband so installed latest imovie and iphoto from app store, and Logic seems back to the way it should be! I am so pleased to be able to work again. Thanks a million to whoever is responsible for this. :-)
