Try a different DNS server .. OpenDNS
Open System Preferences / Preferences then select the Network tab. Click the Advanced tab then click the DNS tab.
Enter these addresses exactly as you see them here.
Then click OK.
Quit then relaunch Safari to test.

You are a Godsend. I did exactly as you instructed and now my computer is zipping along as fast as can be! I don't understand what all those numbers do, but I appreciate the advice!!

Thank you so much for this. This worked amazingly for me. A few minutes ago I was refreshing a page every 5 seconds and hoping it would work ... but after doing as you said, it looks like my problem has been resolved permanently.
