HT4927: iPhoto '11: Restoring from Time Machine with iPhoto '11 (9.2 or later) and OS X Lion 10.7.2 (or later)

Learn about iPhoto '11: Restoring from Time Machine with iPhoto '11 (9.2 or later) and OS X Lion 10.7.2 (or later)

HT4927 Has anybody been able to restore iPhoto Library from Time Machine?  I'm using iPhoto 9.3.2 and OS X 10.7.5.  Time Machine complains that I don't have sufficient permissions for the version of iPhoto Library that I want to restore.

The title says it all.  Note the following before making a suggestion:

1.  iPhoto 9.3.2 no longer offers the option to browse backups while in iPhoto, so the only way to restore a photo is to restore the whole iPhoto Library.

2.  The error message has nothing to do with the target of the restore.  Neither erasing the iPhoto Library in my Pictures folder before attempting to restore, not telling Time Machine to restore to another folder circumvents the message.

3.  Repairing the permissions of the Time Machine volume does not solve the problem.

4.  It is not possible to manipulate the version of iPhoto Library that I want to restore in Time Machine.  I can neither change its permissions nor zip it.  Directly manipulating the Time Machine volume is surely not a good idea, neither in the Finder nor in the Terminal app.  (I mention this because I have read suggestions to modify the permissions and to compress the iPhoto Library that I want to restore.)

As long as I cannot restore iPhoto Library from Time Machine I hesitate to upgrade iPhoto.

Richard
