New ML on late 2008 MBP with SSD/HDD issues

Recently installed an 120GB SSD for the OS in the optical bay and replaced the original 250GB with a 750GB HDD for 'users'. OS was Snow Leopard. Ran for a couple of months, worked great. Decided to U/G to Mountain Lion. Download & install went fine but:

1) Can no longer mount my QNap NAS on my home network. Can see it the Finder sidebar, but won't connect, just says 'connecting'. Activity monitor is showing Netauthsysagent using close to 100% CPU & warms up.  After a few minutes, another process ' CrashReport' is using close to the other 100%. No crash report is generated (I think). Force quit both & everything cools down. Tried AFP and SAMBA. I can still connect to QNap with their web app.

2) Can no longer mount my iMac. Same situation as the NAS. Screen sharing doesn't work either.

3) Can't connect to my USB/400/800 Lacie Rugged backup drives over USB anymore but connects okay over firewire. Didn't like firewire since there's a history of dropped connections while connected. Anyway,

3) Some programs are either not working or causing grief. For example:

DROPBOX ( 1.4.17 and 1.5.10): App won't launch, but runs CPU to close to 100%. Not showing on menubar either. Force quit & every things okay.

PIXELMATOR (2.1.1): Crashes immediately on launch. Crash report is  offered.

PLEX (0.8.5): Launches okay but find about 30 'Python' processes running and both sides running close to 100%. Python processes keep running after Plex shut down. Reboot and everything back to normal.

SUPER DUPER (2.6.4): Beachballs, 'Netauthsysagent' rears it's ugly head.

VLC (2.0.0): Bounces in the dock, drives the CPU to close to 100% but doesn't open.

FLASHBACK RemovalTool: Won't launch. Saw  an extra drive in DiskUtility, some FlashPlayer installer so thought I might have an issue so thought I'd try this. Won't run.

4) DiskUtility Tool won't let me RepairPermissions on my HDD, button greyed out.

 

As I mentioned, everything worked great under SL. I suspect there might be an issue with the OS on a different drive from the 'Users' drive in ML but have no idea for sure. Tried to figure this out on my own but I'm kinda simple once things get technical for any help or 'next step' is appreciated.

    I realize that this is only a tiny piece of your puzzle, but what was the source of the FLASHBACK RemovalTool? The only one recommended today is from Apple and even it should not be necessary as the Flashback malware has been declared extinct by a number of A-V labs. Also, it has not used the FlashPlayer installer as an infection mechanism for almost a year now. Java was used during it's most dangerous period.

    That's what I was afraid of. Chicken Little was running around to several sites the other day spreading FUD about a new Flashback attack, based on something he read in an April blog which wasn't even very credible.

     

    FYI, the F-Secure tool is an AppleScript which, in turn, runs a shell script to search for and delete Flashback components. Because the rest of your problems involve a variety of different applications it's clearly not just an AppleScript issue. SInce I have no Mountain Lion experience, I hesitate to offer much advise, except to say it sounds like it might be worth rebuilding the Launch Services DB with something like OnyX.

    This may or may not be helpful in your circumstance but I was experiencing a lot of issues after installing ML as well. I backed up, reinstalled a fresh copy on an erased partition and am now back to normal.

    Advice appreciated. Unfortunately, that's beyond my scope of expertise.

    I'm quite certain it's not beyond your expertise, assuming you can get OnyX to run.

     

    Download the appropriate version form here.

    Mount the .dmg and drag the application to your hard drive.

    Launch OnyX, enter your admin password and choose to check S.M.A.R.T. and/or hard drive directory or not.

    Select the Maintenance Icon, Rebuild tab, LauchServices box and hit the execute button.

    Wait until it's done.

    Hey Randy,

     

    Yup I have two drives in my iMac, am using the SSD for system files and HDD for media. After I installed the new drives and installed 10.8, then migrated my user from a backup and made symbolic links for the media folders (music, downloads, etc.) between the two drives it's been working like a charm. Absolutely none of the problems I was having before with ML.

     

    Of course, i've been having a hellish time trying to get Boot Camp to allow a windows install on one of the HDD's partitions, but that's another story.

    How is GateKeeper set up? Are you restricting applications from launching?
