I recorded a gig last night and was editing and accidentally saved a song over the original file.  Now I can't revert back to the 4 hour original recording.  Is there any way to recover this?

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8), Garage Band

If you hit "Save " .... which I'd bet you did .... I would have. I'd venture to say it's gone in blue smoke and you're outta' luck,

Do you have hourly TimeMachine Backups enabled on your Mac? Ten you could restore the previous version fromTimeMachine.

Yes I did, like a stupid idiot.  Not even realizing and I have been devastated.  I have begun to use Time Machine now in hopes I won't pull a stunt like that again.  Some of the best "live" music, gone in a flash.  UGH! But I have definitely learned a lesson.  Thanks for your responses!

It may be a bit late now, but if you did not write too much to your disk, you could try to recover the recorded audio files at least with recovery software, for example the free Disk Drill:  http://www.cleverfiles.com/

I have never tried it with audio files, but for image files it works well. You will get the naked files without filenames, and not your GarageBand project.

Thank you so much LeonieDF.  It has recovered quite a few of the garage band files, not sure yet if it is my original, but now they want 89 dollars to finish the deal for me to pull up these files.  Anything else for free?

Did you download the "pro" version and not the basic free version?

I have not tried any other recovery programs, sorry, so you will have to google for it "data recovery mac free" or similar.
