More problems with iPhoto (V9.2.3 on OS 10.6.8) Slideshow settings.  Having restored Themes and Music by copying from my wife's MacBook Pro I now find that the time settings are faulty.  Specifically, existing slideshow show a slide duration of infinity (can't find the symbol on my keyboard).  Any attempt tochange the setting results in a crash.  Here is the opening of the crash report:

That slideshow seems to be damages.  Create a new slideshow and see if you can set the slide duration on it without crashing. If you can then just delete the existing slideshow and go on.

If a new slideshow exhibits the same problem try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If it does you'll need to reinstall iPhoto from the source it was obtaied from originally.

If the problem is not repeated in the new library then your current library is damage and needs to be repaired. In that case   make a temporary, backup copy of your library if you don't already have one (Control-click on the library and select Duplicate from the contextual menu) and  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:

    Fix #1

Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.

Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #1, followed by #3 and then #4 as needed.

    Fix #2

Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library

      1. Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
      2. Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
      3. Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
      4. In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
      5. Click on the Create button.

Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

You're right - three out of five slideshows were damaged, but newly created ones are fine.  I've deleted two of the three faulty slideshows, but the third causes iPhoto to crash as soon as I highlight it.  I've tried all of Fix1 but I still can't access the slideshow in order to delete it.  Is there any other method of deletion?

I've spent best part of a weekend tracking down and correcting this problem (see previous posts).  Is there anything I should (or should not) do in order to stop it happening again?

    Thanks for your help.

All I can suggest is to keep a current backup of your library either with Time Machine or with a 3rd party backup application that can do incremental backups.  I use Synk Pro but Synk will also do incrementals.
