The people on the frontlines answering phones for Apple don't typically have an serious background in issues/concerns....they just forward the calls to "senior advisor's" or "genius's" who handle the real problems.  Most people who call with bad battery life are told to turn their phone off and on again and viola! - your fixed!  The sad part is....they will hang up smiling/believing it's indeed fixed.

Guys I just did a dfu restore with a fresh download of ios6 one last time to see what happens if I use the phone before putting iCloud/apps/email on it. I have been using safari on LTE for 6 mins straight without a battery percentage drop. So what is it that we all have installed that's doing this? Something we all have is draining the power. I don't think it's the phone. Also, the amount of GB in "other" is different than any other time I've downloaded the software fresh without putting ANYTHING on it... Did they slip something into the iTunes software? All I know is, with nothing installed on my phone I am basically getting more time on LTE right now.

Maybe it's an old app conflicting with a new phone that we all have in common.

Yeah something we have all installed is causing this because I literally am using the phone as of 49 mins ago standby / 37 minutes usage(all safari) - no apps installed, just my mail set up to push... I'm at 97% all on LTE, screen very bright. I just am completely stumped at what it is we have installed that's doing this... Crazy!

After a week of getting really crappy battery life today the world changed dramatically. I charged the phone overnight and unplugged it at 8:00AM. I turned on the wifi but left BT and Siri off. At 6:00PM it was still at 82%! Every other day it would have been dead about then. Checked mail and used some apps but no calls. At 10:00PM unlocked the screen, and it still read 82%.

Either the battery finally took a full charge, or apple pushed something to the phone that fixed the problem. I will report back tomorrow went it drains down to less than 5%

I'm not ready to say the problem is fixed, but today was a 180 degree turnaround.

Let's hope this is a permanent condition!

Update Star Date 14 Oct 23:51 EDT:

Phone down to 9% with over 7 hr of Usage and 1 Day 15 Hr. Standby.

Few calls today, mainly just wifi and cellular data. Leaving phone off charger tonight to see drain by morning.

    Keeping my fingers crossed...

    I'm at 85%

    Usage: 1 hour33 mins

    Standby: 1 hour 46 mins

Nothing installed. Using safari that whole time. Half LTE half wifi. Is this even good?

Hmmm well. I think I'm REALLY gonna call it quits here. I keep getting dragged back by ideas but I just need to hear from apple is the end result. What are we dealing with here? That's what we need to know. I HAVE To be done trying to figure it out lol - driving me bonkers.

I've had two iPhone 5's. Both of them drain the battery at a rate of 10-13% every hour with minimal usage (web browsing, radio, txting). I've done a plethora of restores, both fresh (setup as a new phone) and from backups. Each time, the fresh setups work fine and battery drops at a rate of 6% every hour. That's half as fast. Clearly whatever the problem is, it is related to restoring from a backup and not a hardware problem. That's the good news. Bad news is, Apple has said NOTHING about this and they can't fix a problem they don't know about. Some here have said senior techs at Apple are working on it and I seriously hope that is the case.. and if so, they ought to let us all know what's going on so we can stop bashing our heads against a brick wall and losing hours and hours of our time trying to fix an unfixable debacle that only Apple can solve.

This is also obviously a software issue due to the glitches in standy-by and usage times in the system settings matching almost perfectly. Other software glitches some have mentioned in untrue storage space listings is also indicative of some software bugs.

Since the only solution now is to reset the phone and set it up as a new device, and since I have a ton of apps with critical data and other information I am not able to do this. I even tried iExplorer to re-install app data on a fresh phone to no avail. I either charge my phone twice a day or lose my data, so I'm dealing with the battery life issues.

All these other solutions for "solving" or "fixing" the battery life are absolutely marginal at best since they do not address the REAL problem. I can turn off notifications, LTE, GPS, push emails, icloud and turn my screen brightness down and while I'm at it, if I just turn my phone off completely -- then it would be fixed -- right? ha.

I don't think Apple will ever publicly admit what's going on either. They've already had enough bad press about Apple maps, purple flares and scratched handsets. Admitting to catastrophic battery life when restored from an old backup would just further damage business. I think they will just quietly release a 6.01 fix soon and then all this will be a thing of the past. (I hope!) But I wish they would keep us in the loop. I'd feel a lot better and I think so would everyone here.

So it's safe to say that you couldn't manage to let the phone sit and settle out for a couple of days, eh?   Back on Friday, you committed to give it a try....

Jameson - actually, I had every intention of doing that until my phone was crashing left and right. The camera wouldn't open. Even after a hard reset, etc etc. this time I was actually forced into restoring my phone (karma) getting new replacement this week... Gonna set it up the way I want it and let it settle. Sorry buddy

    Guys

I need some help with something.  In a stunning piece of irony, all of the email notifications from this thread are killing me.  I would like to just check it manually, but I can't get them to stop.  I got in my preferences above and turned all email notifications to "no", but I'm still getting them.  Any ideas?
