Looking forward to getting this worked out.

Me too! The iRig was exactly what I needed in terms of capability v price (not a pro muso, just keen amateur!)
The early days with the set up was so cool, able to use all the effects in GB amps/stomp boxes with only a very minor background noise.
I'm still thinking it's a software thing though the comment about the cross talk not working properly sounds right to me. Any suggestions to pin it down a bit more? Is there anyone out there with an iPad3, iRig and GB v1.3 having a good time? - though I don't suppose they'll be hanging around here if they are! ;-)

Exactly same problem here as everyone else. Quite new to GB and iPads - only just got my first iPad (3). I'd used GB on iPhone 4 before that and loved it. Was very excited about using GB on iPad, and it proved to be excellent. It all went downhil when I introduced the iRig into the equation. To be clear - i agree, I dont think the problem is with iRig as it works fine with Amplitube. I am properly GUTTED! The background noise renders the whole set up useless for recording guitar into GB - which is all i wanted to do.
I feel for iRig manufacturers as this has rendered their product useless for the multitude of GB users out there
Not wishing to waste money - but can anyone confirm if Apogee Jam works ok with GB (ie - no background noise) ??

Thanks for the kind words about us here at IK Multimedia. We actually have a USB guitar interface called the StealthPlug that works on iOS devices with the Camera Connection Kit. All digital PLUS it will also work on your Mac or PC on top of your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad. Check it out:
It also comes with credits to the AmpliTube Custom Shop, which is free for everyone with 24 gear models to start.

I'm having the same problem as everyone else. Do you guys think the people at Apple are actually reading this? This has ****** med sooo off. I bought the Ipad in the first place to play guitar and make music. Now everything is messed up. The squealing sound (sounds like feedback on steroids) I get with the Irig has rendered using the distortion amps useless. And I'm a huge metal fan, so that ruins pretty much my whole gig.
If they don't fix this soon, I'll be forced to buy an Apogee-jam, as I hear there is no problem with that one, but it's extremely annoying, because in my country they cost over 100 euros, and I allready payed like 50 euros for the Irig. If I am forced to do that, rest assure I will never buy anything from the Irig-people again.

Hey, I share your pain M0skus. From my perspective though, I wouldn't be too harsh on the iRig (IK Media) guys. When I first got my iRig it was spot on for my needs - did everything I wanted it to do, sound quality (for the type of device - I/O through the headphone socket) was about what I expected. Perfectly useable.
It was when Apple 'upgraded' GB (and/or iPad) that things fell apart. I don't think we can blame IK for that!
To be honest they've been very responsive when I've contacted them. I need to talk to them some more as I'm still in the same sh*it-sandwich as you but I haven't had time to do much about it yet.
I just hope they're giving Apple a hard time behind the scenes on our behalf as it impacts their business as much as it gives us grief.
Any one had any success in getting the screeching to tone down any? Different amps/effects/volume levels etc?
The only way I can get anything is to keep the volumes down so low I can't hear the guitar ;-)

Hi Bm, thanks for responding. No, I know it's apples fault and not IK media, but I just don't get why they don't check these things out before releasing an update - as there must be tens of thousands of people using Apple-stuff and the related gears all around the world to record guitars. Is it that they don't talk to eachother, Apple and the companies producing hardware related to/designed for the Apple-products? It's hugely annoying. My new song I had to record using just clean guitars - I feel like the ****ing Cranberries now...;o)

I feel like the ****ing Cranberries now LOL
When you see threads with hundreds of pages on asking Apple to change something (without success), I think that with only 4 pages in this thread we are very much a minority that Apple don't need to concern themselves with. Gone are the days when Apple was about obsessive detail and insanely great products. It's all about volumes these days I'm afraid.
I'm not expecting anything from Apple. When Iget a bit more time I'll get back in touch with Joel at IK and try and see if there's a combination of settings that will mitigate the problem but I'm beginning to suspect it may be the GB software not activating the crosstalk protection properly .
For now, I'm lucky enough that my wife's iPad2 with the previous version of GB on it is still useable - I just dread the day one of us clicks on "update all" and overwrites the last useful version of GB with the current failed effort.

We always do our best to check that our accessories work with all iOS devices. Unfortunately this appears to be an app issue more than our hardware. We are still here to help in anyway we can through our support.

I realize it's not the hardware that is the problem. Still, that doesn't solve my problem, you know. I'll have to buy the apogee...and then I'm not gonna ever update garageband ever again...You people at IK Media must be as annoyed with this problem as we are. Thanks for responding.

Anytime, that is what we are here for. Sorry we couldn't help more.

Im having the same problem with my "MacBook Pro" and "Guitar Link" (interface). After reading this forum i think the problem is GarageBand. But why the Apogee Jam works fine? Does it?

I see that we are 8 months into this issue. I've got noise like you would believe! Using iRig. Absolutely no issues with JamUp XT. None. Slight issues with Amplitubes high gain simulations. Studio Devil unusable. Ampkit and PocketAmp passable. Fix or refund...

You can contact our support for as much help that we can provide, but this seems to be an issue with GarageBand more than the iRig.

No argument with that assessment. Never was an Apple man until my wife bought me an iPad3. Still not an Apple man. So much potential, so little support.
