@nerd link, you can cancel you order with AT&T, I have done it. I went to the apple store yesterday and what they told me was to on the apple site at 10 PM and order a phone, you can pick it up in the store the next day. He said they get a shipment everyday but they also sell out everyday. That's your best bet for getting one. The thing about canceling your order is you have to get them to restore your upgrade eligibility. I have done this so they are lying to you.

    I think like this.

Order at 20-21 ships at 13.10

    Order at 22-23 ships 14.10

    Etc

I order at 27.9 so it ships at 18.10

    Hopefully

Agreed - I had to speak with a supervisor before AT&T would cancel my preorder and restore my upgrade eligibility, but it can be done if your are persistant enough.

After all the dust settled, I found out AT&T charged me twice for their "one-time" upgarde fee of $36 - so they can't even get that right...

I ordered Sept 20 and mine wasn't shipped on Oct 13. You can't go by that. It depends on the GB and color. White 16gb are shipping A LOT later because they're the most popular.

I think you might be somewhat right, but I think it varies a little by order. I ordered 16gb blk on 21st Sep and I just got tracking info for fedex overnight. It's supposed to arrive by Tuesday 3pm, coming from TX to DC! I'm finally receiving mine! So excited!

When do you think I will recieve my black 32 gb iPhone? I preordered mine the Sept 28th at a AT&T store and I'm getting anxious. Anyone want to cheer me up with some hopeful news besides the hellish backorder ordeal?

Well because of this preorder fiasco, Apple has lost a good customer! I preordered my iPhone 5 the first day with AT&T over the phone. Was told it would be 14 to 21 days for shipping and I agreed after the lady told me that I could cancel my order if needed in case I saw one available in store. Fast forward a few days, I called AT&T to do just that due to An available iPhone 5s in store and I was told I couldn't cancel my order once it's been processed and my MONEY  on hold! That began a three day campaign of me calling different AT&T managers and getting different lies from each on when my order will be shipped (new date was end of october!!!) and why I can't cancel.  Thankfully on the third campaign day, AT&T just implemented a cancelation policy for iphone preorders so I canceled ASAP. That night apple advertised the 10pm to 4am online order at apple stores. I called different apple stores in my area and verified that they had iPhones in stock that night for the online order. I was excited and at 10pm sharp tried to order but I couldn't click pick up in store button. It was unavailable all night!!! The next day I called the stores and all available iPhones where picked up already thru the late night online orders. That was the last straw that made me see that I had become isheep!i reshearched different phones and fell in love with the Nokia lumia 920! Larger screen, NFC, cool charging and speaker accessories, screen can be used with gloves and fingernails, and dslr comparable camera and stabilization. I'm not an apps person so the limited app won't affect me. I still love apple (hence first ever preorder of a phone was the iPhone 5) but I really needed to upgrade my 3GS and they and AT&T really made it a bad experience for the ones that preordered. And for me it was bad enough for me to reshearch other phones and jump ship.

Perhaps if enough people canceled their pre-orders then AT&T / Apple would stop sending their new supply to the stores and would actually fullfill the pre-orders?!?! I'll go out on a limb and say that this record setting Apple pre-order for the iPhone 5 will NOT be matched next year by the iPhone 6. I'm fairly confident the majority of people that have been waiting for 4+ weeks for a pre-order will not be doing the same next year or years after. I myself will definitely never pre-order from Apple or AT&T again.

It just adds insult to injury when you fill every store with new phones on a daily basis but do not take care of the people that created the record setting iPhone hype, us, the consumers who placed pre-orders. I'm sure AT&T / Apple view us as already paid / locked-in consumers and by sending supply to the stores they can theoretically sell even more iPhones the first month or two, even if the phones aren't actually making it in to the hands of the people who pre-ordered. As the CEO of these companies it makes sense, sell sell sell, but they have failed to recall that even the previously very happy consumer will be left a permanent bad taste in their mouth from one negative situation with a particular company. I used to place Apple on a pedastal but perhaps now I'll put them on the footstool...

Samsung Galaxy III is looking pretty good to me right now...

So, any help is much appreciated, I ordered my iPhone on Oct. 2nd, AT&T store said it would be 14-21 days, should I believe that or is that just BS, also I live in Texas. What do you guys think, should I cancel my order and try my luck with apple store. Thanks

Ordered mine the 1st.  Got a confirmation email on the second and not a word has come from AT&T since.  Just feels like limbo.  From researching the situation in all of the AT&T iPhone 5 complaint threads across the web, I think you have another week to go at the least, possibly more, before you will receive a note with any notion of progress.  I think we will have our phones in about 2-3 more weeks if we rely on AT&T.

If you ordered a 16gb iPhone 5 I would definitely cancel it but everyone's patience is different. You're likely looking at 2 weeks or more of wait time from here on out unless anyone here believes the wait time will decrease on future orders? AT&T also likely failed to make it clear to you that it was 14-21 BUSINESS days, so I'm guesing you're looking at possibly a full month from order date to in hands delivery date. I ordered a black 16gb on 9/21 (processed @ 5pm) and am still waiting for an update on the status, 15th business day today. As long as you live near at least 1 apple store and can do pickp I would give that a shot. Just make sure you order at the precise time and not a minute too late.

Expect your phone to be shipped between October 22 and 31st.  IF they are holding true to their 14-21 business day statement.  With that being said, I ordered my phone on 9/20 and it has eat to be shipped after 17 business days, if that tells you anything.
