    I am so sick of reading nonsense posts like this.  With using WiFi solely my battery is just as bad.  We've all tried to give a thousand reasons for a thousand different problems affecting the battery life (and problems relating to sending emails, texts, or browsing over WiFi).  Until Apple figures this out we've all been wasting our time, and likely me as one of the biggest offenders as I devoted much time and assistance to Apple with multiple logging profiles and they wouldn't even consider compensating me for my help, after paying full price for a phone which should have worked as advertised from day one.  The only thing I take pleasure in now is watching their stock continue to fall.  Having gone down 10% since the iPhone 5 release and as I'm sure Google and Samsung are laughing their ***** off, I can only say I share in their joy while feeling my own pain, being a loyal Apple user all these years and once again being let down after a new product launch.  The difference this time, for me, is that it is likely the last Apple purchase I will ever make.  And that saddens me.  But I don't deserve the stress, aggravation, disappointment — and neither do any of you.  You all spent your hard earned money, too.  Take a hard line with me.  Make Apple truly understand they can't just urinate all over their customers and expect them to swim in it.

    Second day of using phone.

    Everything ON. Heavy Internet use.
    /___sbsstatic___/migration-images/200/20033991-1.png
    A week later.
    Everything set to OFF. Very mild internet use. Email on Fetch. Facebook on Push. No Fiddling.
    /___sbsstatic___/migration-images/200/20033991-2.png

    Almost certain this is a data firmware/software issue now...

    @Handsfull

    Don't be feeding the trolls bud.....   This thread has begun to degrade enough already!

    In an effort to rein in some of the panic here, I'd like to offer some logic to HOPEFULLY, relieve some of the stress.

    1. Let's set some realistic expectations.   Few, if any smartphones, actually live up to the manufacturer's claimed battery life.   My i4 and i4s were no different then my i5 in this regard.
    2. What is necessary?   For me, it's having the phone set to utilize all the features I bought it for AND lasting through the entire day, with moderate usage.   I charge while sleeping every night, regardless of % remaining when I hit the sack.   LUCKILY for me, my i5 meets this expectation.
    3. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, try the "set it and forget it" method for 3 days and see if your phone settles out.   I'm totally convinced that there are background activities taking place on new, restored and/or reset phones, that is using a lot of resources.   I can't pinpoint what it's doing, but it appears to be doing something.
    4. This is not a contest to see who can get the most out of their phone.   Some people cannot make it through an average day on a charge.   THAT is a problem.   Making your charge last a week by turning everything off, helps nobody and simply clutters up the thread.

    Step back, take a deep breath and try my method in #3.   It has worked for me on TWO phones (mine and my wife's) and a few others who had the patience have reported good results as well.

    After all is said and done, remember..........   It is just a phone and not the end of the world!!!

    Ok, so as promised I had the phone since last night around 12 midnight at 42 percent. It has been in airplane mode since then and is now almost 9 am. It dropped 1 percent so that is 41 percent. What that means to me is that the battery is ok, the LTE/4G basically all the data sending and receivng is killing the battery. So it seems that this may be a firmware/software issue. So that is 9 hours in airplane mode with 1 percent drop in battery life.

    I will keep the phone in airplane mode I want to see what it does if it keeps the 41 percent and for how long. I will report back in a few hours.

    This happens everytime a new phone is released.

    Everyone with particularly bad battery life should wait until 6.1 is released.  It's pretty clear that it hasn't be fully optimised yet.

    @marine8 et el

    I charged my phone to the top and closed all apps about a day ago. I never checked or touched the phone. There is no push or fetch. Cellular was on and Wifi is off. No bluetooth. Minimal notications and only find my iphone in location services. Results:

    Battery 90%

    Usage 38 Min

    Standby 21 Hours, 42 Min

    Data Usage:

    Sent 298 KB

    Recieved 1.0 MB

    It is beyond me that with such a simple setup that I have 38 min and all of that Data Usage in less than one day without even using the phone. The phone is constanly sending packets of info to the cell tower as sometimes as frequently as every 3 min. It puts out so much RF without even using it, that I am afraid to put in my pocket. What is going on here? Also, Would the phone company charge me if I exceeded my data limit for data that I never requested?

    @iphone5rocks

    I think you have yourself worked up for nothing bud.   With cellular on, the phone will regulalry poll the network to remain connected.   With some notifications on, the phone will poll for those regularly.   With Find-My-iPhone on, the phone will regularly post your position to the network, using GPS and/or triangluation.   I would suggest that your stats over nearly 22 hours are just fine and you have nothing at all to worry about.

    1.3MB in 22 hours... Doesn't seem like much to me. Also, every mobile phone, smart or not, pushes out RF as it talks to the cell towers every minute or so...

    Check your Apps!! My wife and I both have iPhone 5's. My battery will last at least 2 days while hers was only lasting 4-5hours. As soon as she deleted Angry Birds, her battery lfe was fine.

    Jameson:  thanks for the troll support!

    Well guys, you won't believe this.....but I spoke to someone high up the food chain at Apple (won't name the individual, or say how they contacted me, so don't ask) and they stated they are not only aware of the issue, they are working on it.   (There will be people saying I'm blowing smoke by posting this: I won't bother replying to them..you don't believe my words, I'm OK with that)

    I still don't have word if it's hardware related, although all fingers point more in the direction of OS than hardware IMO. That's NOT saying I can rule out hardware at this time....it's still hard to explain how some are pulling great numbers and some HORRIBLE, yet both are running the same OS. That is the part that troubles me.

    I fail to see why it needs to post my location when no one is requesting my location. By the way, I received no text messages or phone calls during this period.

    But just to set the record straight, when a get a chance, I will turn off all location services and notifications and repeat the test.

    The only notification services I had on were messages and phone and calendar. That's all and I didn't get anything.

    In case you missed it. When people say that they think they got 4 hours of usage in a day from the phone. Some substantial part of that may be from not even using the phone.

    PS: I have all of my apps set so they don't pull any info.
