Oct 15, 2012 1:33 PM in response to JPB63by CMCSK,Change your router channel. Sometimes this is all you will have to do.
Power cycling the router. Read the router's user manual or contact their tech support for instructions.
System Preferences/Internet & Network/Network
Unlock the padlock
Locations: Automatic
Highlight Airport
Click the Assist Me button
In the popup window click the Diagnostic button.
System Preferences/Network- Unlock padlock. Highlight Airport. Network Name-select your name. Click on the Advanced button. Airport/Preferred Networks-delete all that is not your network.
Place a check mark next to "Remember networks this computer has joined." Click the OK button and lock the padlock. Restart your computer.

Oct 16, 2012 10:57 AM in response to CMCSKby JPB63,THanks for this detailed response. I have tried everything and am at my wit's end. Could it be a blocked port? If so, how to open it? This started after traveling through an airport and using free wireless. I was asked if I wanted to use it and I responded positively. But once I left the airport and returned home, the wireless features of the computer do not access the outside world (cable connections work, though). What I mean is: I get an IP number from the router/WAP but there is no internet connection. Could that be a sympton of Firewall blockage or a port being closed?
Right now I am not home and not able to download/update the system software (which may fix this problem). And I need a wifi connection for work and a presentation later this week.
Thanks.

Oct 16, 2012 1:05 PM in response to JPB63by CMCSK,You may do better if you post in the Mac OS X v10.7 Lion forum area since that is the os you are using. The users there can offer other solutions for you to try. I do not use Lion.

Oct 17, 2012 6:40 AM in response to CMCSKby JPB63,thanks for the recommendation. But, actually, the computer about which I am writing uses OSX 10.5. It's an old clunker that I carry on trips to rougher spots so that, if it's lost or damaged, I won't feel too bad nor lose too much. Most of the work I access is stored in the cloud. However, I'll look in the other chat areas, too, and maybe there's something there that can clear up this problem. I thank you for your help.
