Oct 17, 2012 4:04 PM in response to julesnewtoMacby AHG2009,So the person in the Mac store lied to me? That doesn't seem right. Anyone else have solutions befroe I return this to the store as without being able to put media on it for transport it is pretty much useless.

Oct 17, 2012 4:06 PM in response to AHG2009by AHG2009,It says it has 8 G in Flash Memory, I should be able to use that and copy content, right?
-
Oct 17, 2012 7:12 PM in response to AHG2009by vazandrew,That is purely for caching streamed content. There is no accessible hard drive and the device is advertised as streaming only. Best to research ahead

Nov 28, 2012 11:37 AM in response to vazandrewby jalyons,I'm wondering about this, too. I'm trying to restore my Apple TV3 to an earlier version, since it no longer shows any content other than Home & Settings after the last update. I was told to restore to earlier version (which I've downloaded to my imac) because the update is faulty and causing all sorts of problems.
My question is since Apple TV3 doesn't show up under Devices in itunes 10, but rather shows up in the right-hand bottom corner as Airplay, how can I restore it to the earlier version I downloaded? I don't see any options to do this restore, and am completely confused. Any help would be SOOO appreciated.

Nov 28, 2012 12:47 PM in response to jalyonsby vazandrew,As mentioned it will show up if connected for restore, but you need to tether via micro USB. The link above will go into more detail
-
Nov 29, 2012 11:15 AM in response to vazandrewby jalyons,I understand that, and I did tether via micro USB. The directions from that link are:
- Disconnect the power and HDMI cables from Apple TV. Note: If you do not disconnect the power cable before connecting the micro USB cable, you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list.
- Connect one end of a micro USB cable to the back of your Apple TV, and the other end to one of your computer's USB ports.
- Apple TV (3rd generation) only: Reconnect the power cable to your Apple TV.
- Open iTunes on your computer.
- Select your Apple TV in the Source list, and then click Restore.
I followed all these steps. When I open iTunes, my Apple TV doesn't show up under Devices, nor in a "Source list". The only place it does show up is in the bottom right-hand corner via Airplay with no options to restore or anything else, as I said above. What I'm asking is, how do I restore to the earlier version I have saved on my iMac when there is no place in iTunes to do that? Is there an option on Apple TV screen (when it's hooked up to my tv) to turn off Airplay?...and if so, and I turned it off, would it then show up in iTunes to restore?

Nov 29, 2012 12:53 PM in response to jalyonsby vazandrew,AirPlay is separate and that shows regardless. If you really are following the steps it should be showing up, otherwise something on your system may be preventing it
Downgrading is not officially supported so if that's your only intention then you will have to search elsewhere for the solution as we cannot discuss here

Nov 29, 2012 4:06 PM in response to vazandrewby jalyons,Downgrading is discussed in length in this forum...in fact it's all over this forum, including the download link for the 5.0.2 file. At least they were trying to help a TON of people having the same problem as I.
But you're telling me I now have a $100 APPLE TV3 box that's been rendered useless by a bad APPLE "update", and I can't get any answers or help because it can't be discussed in the APPLE Support Forum. Wow. Thank you for your time.

Nov 29, 2012 4:11 PM in response to jalyonsby vazandrew,Downgrading has never been officially supported and i'm not debating the fact that it's discussed but that it's against the terms of the forum. Such discussions are removed all the time.
You have made no mention here of the issues you are having, so it's hard for someone to diagnose anything.
