Any of you experiencing a rattle sound when holding the iPhone 5 and gently tap the back of your iPhone with your fingers near the Apple logo?

I can't figure out whether this is from inside the alluminium case, it might be the camera or maybe something else.. I've tried holding the phone together with the volume and sleep buttons but it doesn't have any effect.

I just thought it was a bit strange.

Anyone?

Yes, my phone has a rattle too. Not super loud, but perceptible.  Took my phone to Genius Bar for them to check my battery and mentioned the rattle but was told it most likely was nothing to worry about. I am going to monitor it; if it get worse taking it back to the Genius Bar.  My rattle is above the apple logo, closer to the camera. There is another thread about this topic. It mentions that the rattle may be due to the camera optics.

I am hearing the same rattle. From what I've speed read in the forums, I think this is normal and ha to do with the camera lens..

Pheew.. I thought so, but just had to check with somebody else. Since I live in Copenhagen, Denmark I don't have the luxury to go down to the Genius Bar and ask - In fact we don't even have an Apple Store. So if this becomes a bigger issue I'd have to go through my tele carrier to get answer, and THAT can be a long process.

Yeah I have the same problem . It's annoying and I just want to go complain. Apple assured us a "good quality phone" .My friend has a Galaxy 3 and he heard my phone rattle when he held it and he started laughing saying " what is that!? . Does it come with a. Rattle too?" And it was kinda embarrassing because we were around people so I was kinda mad and embarrassed at the same time .

My iPhone 5 does this also.  I notice it most when I put the phone down on my mouse pad. On my phone the rattle clearly comes from the camera area.  Also it doesn't take much to get it to rattle.  The lightest tap does it.  I was hoping it was the vibrating mechanism and not the camera.

In my iPhone, it's the power button, that makes the rattling noise.

    Noise Problem cured !!!

My iPhone 5 made a rattling noise when shaken after it had "a few falls"

I read in one of the forums that it was the battery coming away from the adhesive.

I checked iFixit teardown of the iPhone 5 and noted the very large battery which occupies two thirds of the screen space from left to right (starting from above the headphone jack side).

I'm not surprised that if it comes loose that it is the cause of the clunking rattle.

One of the forums contributors suggested gradually pressing all the area of the phone on the outside that overlies the battery inside pressing hard between front and back over all of the screen area from left to right that fronts the battery inside. In this way one pushes the battery back on to the adhesive !!

    It works perfectly - Problem cured !! -  J B Walsh

I believe I know the solution to the camera rattle. Unfortunately, as far as I know, this will require an iOS update from Apple. Understanding that the issue was from the camera elements, I toyed with the iOS camera app and found that if I tried to focus on an object very close it would stop the rattle. This, I believe, because the focusing elements compact together, "pancaking", so to speak, the assembly. So all this would mean is that if Apple were to release an update that would place the elements in this compact form when not in use then the rattle would no longer be there when outside of the camera app. The only issue then is getting Apple to realize this. Noone would have to bring in their iPhones to the Genius Bar. An update to iOS is all that's needed, I believe.

I bought a white Iphone 5 two weeks ago. I opened it and after i set my phone i realise there were 2 red lines in the left part of the screen.(2 dead pixels)... Disapointing. I went to Apple and they gave my a new Iphone 5, but this phone rattles really bad. I tried to forget about that but every time i move the phone makes noice. Tomorrow i have an appointment at Apple.
