I don't have  my os x  start up disk to reboot my Mac Pro 2008. I have a gray screen. I don't know what to do. I am running mountain lion that I down loaded from the apple store.  What do I need to do to fix my computer with out my disk.

MacBook Pro (15-inch Early 2008), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

You are so far away from the forum you need to be in. This forum is for an OS that was popular 10 years ago.

Try using Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, using your Recovery System. You could have some directory corruption. Let us know what errors Disk Repair reports and if DU was able to repair them. This could just be a start in repairs and you may need a better utility to finish the job.

    Then Repair Permissions.

No need to report any Permissions errors........we all get them.

Future posts should be made in the 10.8 usage forum.
