Q: Can not install printer driver

I purchased a Canon Pixma MG5350 and try to install the driver but this message appears on my screen: The system extension “/System/Library/Extensions/hpPlugInInit.kext” was installed improperly and cannot be used. Please try reinstalling it, or contact the product’s vendor for an update.

It is the latest one and there are no more updates on this driver. What should I do?

Assuming your printer is part of the Canon MG5300 series, then Apple supports it and has the driver for you.

    Here's Apple's Mac Print 101 article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4670

I suggest you go to System Preferences > Print & Scan and remove your printer.  Then add it again.  Apple will find your drivers and keep them current per the attached article.

Do you have any HP peripherals?  Did you have any HP peripherals?  I am wondering why what would appear to be HP software is needed for a Canon printer.

Thank you sberman for your answer. I have tried it but it doesn't work. I just deleted the plugin and everything that had to do with HP, emptied my trash and rebooted my mac and the driver was correctly installed, finally! Now I have another problem though. I can not add the printer to the laptop via System Preferences > Print & Scan and it does not even show in System Information > Usb that I am connected to the printer. The printer comes without a USB cable so I bought one yesterday and think that is the problem.
