Q: is external superdrive can work with Macbook pro 15 in

Macbook pro is 2007, the internal superdrive is out, and replacement is much expensive to get fix. I intend to get an external superdrive instead.

yes, it will work. I'm using one - but may be it will be not bootable. Mine is not bootable.

May be your friend didn't connect secondary connector? like for additional power, connects to second USB slot? I have it on enclosure... I don't know.

To connect to second USB slot do you need a Y USB cable type or yours already has two USB cable

mine have one standard miniUSB-USB and one Power-USB wires. It is from OptiBay pack.
