Thanks RabbM, but what I meant was that there's no way to copy the episode description text from within the iTunes player. Anyway, after the expected "We've reposted the videos to your account" response, and (again, as expected) no descriptions attached, I emailed them again with a screenshot of a recent file and an older one both opened in Subler, and showing quite clearly that no Description or Long Description tags were set (plus a link to this discussion page). Hopefully it will be fixed within iTunes 11.

Exactly when a content provider's tags in their XML file get written to the actual video file is a mystery to me (but, considering if you do a "Get info" on a file while it is still downloading in iTunes it does not show any info for most of the tags, I guess it is done on the user's Mac and Apple sends the XML data as a separate part of the download), but my guess is an Apple "Genius" disabled the description tags either from being requested by the iTunes player, or sent by the Apple server.

    Evoell - You're very welcome.

Crtstucker - Good luck!   Let us know what happens.

Aussieguyinnyc - Sorry, I misunderstood what you wrote.  Makes sense.

I'm really starting to wonder if this has anything to do with the imminent release of iTunes 11.  There are so many ways that that scenario keeps playing out in my head.

If they are tweaking the server for the upcoming iTunes 11, more likely someone forgot to include the description tag to serve out to the xml file. Tried buying with iPhone and transfer back to Mac. Same, no description tag serve.

The thing that really gets me is why is it taking so long to fix.  You have a problem that seems to be affecting a large number of iTunes users (if not all of them) where there are no descriptions for any TV shows or movies downloaded since 10/10/2012.  You would think that after this many reports and that it supposedly as reached the content team that someone would figure it out.  Someone has to know; hey that problem is caused by this or hey I was just messing with that feature, let me check it out.  If I took this long to fix something at work, I'd be in someone's office explaining why it wasn't fixed yet!  I realize that the larger the organization the slower that things get done but I used to work for a State government and even the wheels of that bureaucracy were blazing in comparison.  Especially when you think they are upgrading iTunes, you would figure that this would be investigated quickly.  Makes absolutely no sense to me.

I think one of the reasons it's taking so long to fix is that who it's being reported to don't understand that it is a problem with all video downloads it has taken me 8 emails to the guy I was dealing with to even report the problem he told me that they do not alter content and that I have to contact the different studios!!! My mum also reported the problem and was given a refund of £1.37 told the problem had been reported for an individual episode but she didn't know when or if it would be fixed!!

Send an email to cue at apple dot com. Tell him that iTunes Store is not serving up description tags for all TV Shows puchases (not sure about movies) and iTunes Support staff are clueless.

Doubt he will do anything until iTunes 11 is launched which should be around next week. He will probably say, download the latest iTunes as a solution.

Read that the new iTunes might do away with text-based database input.

Evoell - Yes it is both movies and TV shows that are affected by this issue.

Isn't it a shame that you have to spoon feed the customer disservice department to get anything done.  Their first reaction to everyone's complaint always seems to be to blame something else or say that there is nothing that can be done.  Makes me wonder just who they hire, how much these people really know and just how little authority they actually have.  You have to make a huge stink and get a supervisor just to get resolution on the most minor of issues.

Well, I got tired of waiting.  So I sat down and sent an almost two page letter concisely explaining the issue and emailed it to several people at Apple.  What do you think?  Will I get a response or end up in the spam folder?

Can always try to get tech news folks to ask Apple wat's going on. Engadet and CNET. But, don't think anything will be done unless Apple choose to do it. Ultimately, most iTunes Store customers are clueless over such details and they just take whatever Apple feed them. When people voice with their wallets, guarantee companies with react. Don't buy any more content from the store.
