We've updated our WX5004 firmware today. The new software fixes the problem with iPhone 4S and iPad 3 devices on iOS 6 - and does not seem to introduce new problems.
Thanks to HP for quickly providing this fix.

Yes, but octet 2 is non-zero, indicating the BSS Transition bit in the capabilities field is set, so technically Apple does need to transmit the field to indicate dot11MgmtOptionBSSTransitionActivated is true.
What's unclear is whether they support any of the bits cleared in the third octet (bits 24-31); if they hadn't transmitted that, 802.11n-2009 compliant routers wouldn't choke.

I upgraded my AT&T iPhone 4S to iOS 6 and immediately got this problem. I keep getting the "Unable to join <my wifi name>".
My router is Netgear WRT624v3, and its firmware (V2.0.26_1.0.1NA) is most recent (published in 2008). I almost tried everything except a factory reset. Still not working.

Fixed. Take advice from http://forum1.netgear.com/showthread.php?t=79687. Interesting, I have to downgrade router firmware to get it fixed.
