The last few weeks I've been getting kernel panics, most recently 3 today. I've wiped my harddrive and done a clean install and still get them. Here is my panic report. Anyone have any clue as to what the problem could be? Never had a single panic in the previous 2-3 years with this computer, and now a dozen in the last 3 weeks.

    com.nvidia.CUDA          1.1.0

    com.Logitech.Control Center.HID Driver          3.6.0

I have seen both of these implicated in Kernel Panics. Try to update them.

Both of those are up to date. I ran the Apple Hardware Test last night and it turned up nothing. I've taken the side off of my MacPro to allow better airflow and that seems to have helped but isn't ideal and I don't know if that's actually helped or not. More information from Apple would be helpful.

Then remove them. The first order of business with kernel panics is to see if it is a hardware problem. Anything that didn't come with your OS install needs to be removed.

  • 4. Re: Kernel Panics in Mountain Lion

I can't remove them as this is my work machine at my office and I can't afford to take everything off but the base install and wait to see which is causing it, I would lose too much down time. I just now had my 1st panic since the original post.

Then take it to IT and tell them to give you a new one. Not many options with this.

Except they're not implicated in this particular kernel panic, as the backtrace points to a graphics card(s)-related issue:

From what I've been able to dig up the issue seems to be with IOGraphicsFamily.kext file. It was updated from version 2.3.4 in 10.8.1 to 2.3.5 in 10.8.2.

This is where I'm getting this info from. http://www.betalogue.com/2012/09/24/mountainlion-kernelpanicsolution/

Hopefully this gets fixed with an OS update soon.

Once you are inside the kernel, there is no division of code. An audio driver or license manager can interfere with a graphics card very easily. Standard procedure is to remove all 3rd party kernel extensions if there is a kernel panic problem.

The absolute worst thing you can do is assume it is a bug in a driver and sit and wait for an update. Suppose by the time your update arrives, your machine is out of warranty. Remove 3rd party extensions first. If it still panics, take it in for repair.

    Hi there,

I have the same kernelpanics since I've updated to Mountain Lion. I have a Macbook Pro Mid 2009 with a Nvidia 330m. I have installed gfxCardStatus and turn off the Nvidia graphiccard to see, if the problems still exists. With only the Intel HD graphiccard there are no problems anymore and no kernel panics. I have downgraded to Snow Leopard and no kernel panics too. It's defenitiv a problem with the Mountain Lion Nvidia drivers.

I hope there will be a workaround soon!

I have a 2009 Intel Mac Pro 2.66 GHz Quad-core Intel Xeon with 16 GB of ram, and since doing a clean install of Mountain Lion about a month ago, I've been getting tottally random kernel panics, about once every 3 weeks. Back in September I took my machine into the Apple Store while it was still running 10.6.8, and I was getting some segmentation fault errors. Turns out I needed a new motherboard. Replaced that, then decided to do a clean install of Mountain Lion. Then these kernel panics started happening. I took my computer in TWICE more to the Apple Store for a full hardware check, and they couldn't find anything wrong with my HDD's, RAM, or logic board. I installed Mountail Lion on October 3rd, so the system is still fairly new in my drive, and yet, I still have no clue why I'm getting these kernel panics. They also happened when only one or two apps were open (once iTunes and Messages, and then just today, just Firefox, and I had a jpg preview open in Finder.)

If anyone has any idea why this is happening I'd love to know. I can't afford a new computer at the moment and I still can't for the life of me figure out what's wrong. I had been running Snow Leopard since I first bought in 2009, and never had any problems until recently.

Anyone in my situation out there? What was your workaround if you had any? I'd love to know.
