Since the very first computer, it has been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of all docs/file/pics/music/etc on your computer.
As computers/hard drives can and do fail, it is very unwise ot have only one copy of anything.
The'te right. Make a back up so you don't loose purhcased items.

You're taking rather a risk unless you don't care about anything you have on your computer, but that's up to you.
