Either way, you'll need to take or send the iPod in for repair. You can choose to go with Apple or a third party service. Here is Apple's out of warranty repair pricing.

Thanks for the hint. Anyway, knowing already apple's policy one should be simply discouraged to have the product repaired. Fix prices charged (~half of the product's price) is far away from a customer retention strategy. Good Bye Apple.
