i have moved my home folder to a second internal drive that is storing all my data while my original drive is used to run OS's.

i have pointed the mac to this home folder in settings users and groups.

when importing photos this morning i noticed that when i select the mac as the "import from" location there is a listing at the bottom for my home folder name but also for "Desktop". and when looking for the aplibrary files i was trying to import they were not shown in this location even though they were in fact on the desktop and even though going through the Home Folder to get to the desktop did show them as being on the desktop.

does anyone know if there is a need to "back out" of an import some ways to get changes in the file location to register in this pane or if it automatically updates?

does anyone know if there is some kind of cache in aperture that i should/could clear for this?

does anyone know if simply re-pointing mac to the new home folder is sufficient for aperture to work properly?

TIA

Does your new home folder show the House icon in Finder?

    hi frank.

boy, a very big thanks here. i have asked a lot about this issue and this is the first solid piece of info that makes sense to me. yes. i go to the volume that contains my data, go to Users, then i see my home folder name with the home folder icon.

anticipating your answer that all is OK - are there any situations where things would not be OK or where there would need to be some cache cleared out or /something/ that i should be aware of?

i notice that in the "Shared" folder next to my old home folder there is a "Library", "Parallels" and "Techsmith"  folder....

Well good news and bad news. The good news is if your current home folder has the house icon then the move to the new location went OK as far as the OS is concerned.

The bad news is I can't think of any reason or anything special you should need to do to Aperture to get it to see this. I'm not on a machine with Aperture so I can't look into it right now. If this is still open when I get back to a system with Aperture I'll take a look.

    regards

    aok. thanks frank.

i will try to track this more deliberately on my end as i get my head wrapped around the new configuration. i am getting close to getting fully sorted over here so hopefully there won't be so many plates spinning and i can see what might be valid or not valid issue wise.
