So the other day I posted that I went for a run using Nike+GPS with both 3G and LTE and had music going at the same time and it drained over 20% in less than an hour. Well, I did a comparable run only this time with 3G on and LTE off and it only drained 10% in one hour. This is similar to what I was getting with my iPhone 4.

I really do hope the update addresses the battery life, but I'm not gonna hold my breath. I'll just keep Cellular Data off when I'm at home and at work, and try to remember to turn it back on when I'm out and about. And I'll have to remember to carry a charger with me wherever I go. I hate to sound melodramatic, but this may very well be my last iPhone, and I've been on board since the 3G.

Also, I'm new to these forums and I was wondering how to quote users. I don't see a quote button anywhere. Do you just need to use html?

I've got Android phones for work, and trust me, it ain't rosier on the other side either fsuman110. Even with bigger batteries some of the phones out there are only lasting as long as the iPhone in real world usage. Not talking about looping a video and calling it a battery drain test. I suppose Apple could start producing thicker and heavier phones that gives more juice rather than just keeping pace with the average competitor.. They chose not to duke it out with the top dogs like the Razr Maxx, but to just keep within the middle, not the worst, but not fantastic battery life, in order to give that awesome form factor..

I'm sure you're right. I suppose I'm just a little miffed that my actual usage is so far off of the numbers that Apple presented. When I had my iPhone 4 my numbers were nearly identical to Apple's estimates, same with my 3G. My wifi numbers on my iPhone 5 are excellent, but my 3G and LTE on numbers on my iPhone 5 are well below the official numbers. I understand that this has a lot to do with my carrier and network signal strength and whatnot, but then again, I live in the same area with the same coverage as I did when I had my iPhone 4. My 3G/LTE numbers are actually so far off from the official estimates that I can't help but feel that I was deliberately misled.

I think Jameson is right in that Apple's big mistake here was going for a slimmer phone and sacrificing a larger battery. I may have jumped the gun when I said this may be my last iPhone, but I am probably done being an early adopter.

I am having multiple issues with my new Iphone 5.  The battery life and the wifi connection!  I have been up since 6:15 and it is now 9:33 I haven't increased my phone usage and my battery percent is 61%!  This is crazy!!!!!  I have turned off everything that people suggest to reset.  Does anyone have any other solutions?

I'm on my 3rd iPhone 5 now. The first 2 I had the battery had the same problems that everyone here is experiencing. The first 2 I did the restores and set up the phone from new but backed up iTunes still had them same problem. So with my 3rd one before I set up the phone I did a dfu restore and then the normal restore, the only thing I copied over was my contacts from iCloud and set up everything else from new (like downloading the apps from AppStore and not backup) doing this seemed to help the problem. My first 2 phones I would only get between 5-6hrs of usage and now I can get just over 8hrs usage down to 1% before I have to charge the phone again. Using the phone with a mixture of wifi and 3G, browsing safari, watching videos and playing games as well as the usual texting, calls, Instagram and emails. Also to get more out of your battery turn off everything you don't need like blue tooth, notifications, locations, if you really don't use them then there is no point having them turned on. Thought I'd post my experience in the chance it might help.

I just got into photos on my phone to transfer a few pictures from photostream to a new album.  the entire process took about two minutes.  It dropped my battery by 2 percent.

Once again, this phone's battery is absolutely fine.  As long as you don't use it.

By the way, KTH3, I thought your note was really good and actually rather encouraging.  But I would repeat what I have said in this thread before.  If I have to turn down my screen brightness, shut off bluetooth (which I use with my car every day) and disable other functions which were actually touted as reasons to buy this phone, where is the convenience?

That would be a little like shutting off the water at the water main near the street, and going outside with a wrench to turn it back on every time I wanted to take a shower.

    Not very convenient.

    Does this make sense?

On Sunday I unplugged my iPhone from the wall charger at a little before 11am. When I plugged it in the night before I went to bed I close all applications. Although I have BT on, LTE on, and the screen brightness all the way up.

However on that particular day I barely used my phone I mean I did not make any calls (other than someone calling me), browse the web, check email nothing other than that call.

So at 11:37 that night I look at my usage and it says:

USAGE 9 Minutes (which is what I used it for that call)

    Standby 3 hours 11 Minutes

Battery percentage was at 100% (which is good, I believe)

Does that make any sense as to the Standby time? I guess I'm unsure about how this thing calculates standby time. Can anyone help me on this?

I ran mine with a timer the other day and standby seems to just be how long since your last full charge.  That's how it was for me anyway.  The timer matched the standby perfectly.  Usage seems to be a separate measurement of how long you were actually using it.

@bnsmith. Usage = time since last charge using the phone where the screen was on for any purpose. Stanby = time since last charge when the phone was asleep in stanby mode plus any usage in the time period  since last charge.

    Hope this helps

    Best Regards

    John Mul,

How do you describe my experience? If this was true then why doesn't my standby time reflect about 12-13 hours?

Nobody here will have an answer, because your problem does not make sense.   Stanby should have been 12+ hours as you suggest, unless you plugged the phone in and forgot you did (or someone else plugged it in).   Or is there any chance you shut the phone off for 9 hours?

That's what I meant, but your answer makes more sense :)

    Thanks!
